The verbosity is the curse of too much education. A legal background "kind of" tends to lead to being wordy.
The "too much education" thing doesn't strike me as being correct. If anything, college taught me to self-edit myself in the interest of being concise & accurate. You didn't actually graduate with any sort of legal degree, did you?
I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor, in Political Science from Penn State (graduated top of my class...3.98 GPA actually)...and I am only my Master's Thesis away from my Master's in Public Administration (with a concentration in Criminal Justice). I would like to go on to law school eventually, but at this point, who knows.
Anyway, it really was the 20+ page term papers that made me into the wordy monster you see today. More was better...and when I write, I haven't been able to devolve/deprogram myself from that ever since. Needless to say, I became the "go to guy" when anyone missed class and needed to get the notes.
But yes, I really did graduate with a "legal degree."
