The thing is Cranston is a character actor. The dentist on Seinfeld, Gus Grissom (astronaut?) in That Thing You Do. A ton of other stuff I'm too stoned to remember. Besides Walt, my favorites are Mike and Jesse. A ton of depth, especially Jesse, but subtle. And Walt, Jr. I'm not sure if the actor is disabled or not, but the fact they didn't go "full retard" makes even him compelling. Usually a disability is either full on retard, or at the very least the so sugary sweet innocent/ naive/ protected act. Every little victory garners an "Awww" from the audience. This character is a teenager, with all the self centered goofiness that comes with it. He's not protected from the world by his parents. Not more than any other kid, really. Save the scene in Season 1 when some school kids dumped on him in front of his parents in a clothing store. Walt going quiet serial killer on them was what a real dad would do if a bunch of assholes started shitting on his kid. I'm no fighter, but if a group of letterman jackets dumped on my kid in front of me, they'd know it was a mistake. It's that depth of character that makes the show. Fuck. Great show!
