The new head of the senate judiciary committee is Spector, who is a moderate from Pennsylvania. Bush *lost* that state but Spector won his seat anyway. Spector won't have to run again for a while, and he'll probably retire rather than run, but he'll be keenly aware that he can't follow Bush too closely and stay with his constituency.

Spector is pro-abortion and I think he was part of the Republican group that quietly helped kill Bork. And he has *already* fired a warning salvo at Bush over not going too far on nominees.

Soooo.... I'm not too worried about anything like Asscroft making it to the Supreme Court. Some people might wish, but it seems unlikely Spector would even schedule hearings.
