I had lunch with Stunt Rock, today at the Cafe at the Plaza downtown.
He ordered the cafe burger (something i would normally order, if I hadn't been polite and let him order first). This comes with lettuce, tomato, three tyypes of cheese...American, Cheddar, and swiss, along with 2 thick slices of American bacon. This also comes with a dill pickle spear, celery stalk, cucumber slice and a choice of frenched fried potatoes, slaw that has been coled, or chipped potatoes. Mr. Rock opted for the frenched fried potatoes (les pommes frites for you quebecians and montretards out there, this being a canuck based internet webstation base). Mr. Rock asked if he could have cheese on his hamburger whereupon I pointed out that there were 3 slices of cheese served on the cafe burger. How embarassing.
I decided to try the breakfast burrito which is a fine mixture of eggs, cheese, onions, mushrooms, peppers and bacon wrapped into a large tortilla. The waitress also brings a fresh salsa and a cup of soured cream in separate containers. On the side, I opted for the cafe potatoes, which are really delicious potatoes, generously spiced and blended with onions and green peppers.
A few minutes after we ordered, the waitress came back to the table and informed Mr. Rock that they had just run out of Frenched Fries and would he mind chipped potatoes instead? Unfortunately, I didn't speak up and ask if he could substitute cafe potatoes for the frenched fries or the chipped potatoes.
Then, we talked about Franjo's girlfriend, the fall television season, and various other "scene" related topics.
Lunch is one of my three favorite meals of the day! So what did you have for lunch today?

I don't. "The loose chicken"? Isn't the Spanish expression for diarrhea "estomago flojo"? I can see why they'd change it.

We're off to a really good start. I'm glad to see everyone had a good lunch. Can't wait to see what awaits me tomorrow.

Today, I went to Dino's Greek Taverna around the corner. I ordered the shrimp scampi special that included diced peppers and enough garlic to breathe fire breath all afternoon. A cup of new england styled clam chowder is included. The overly made-up big-haired greek lady with the tantalizing middle aged breastesses served me. She was quite brief in dealing with me, so I only tipped 15%. what did you have for lunch?

Yesterday I was at a deli in Little Italy, NYC where I had eggplant parmesan. Now I'm back in LA and having a seafood salad from Clafoutis.

Today, I was supposed to dine with the local Dance Safe representative. Unfortunately, it appears that she forgot about our plans and never called this morning. I'm surprisingly not as depressed as I thought I would have been, considering she's quite the spicy meatball and I'd like to get to know her on more of a social level. I was looking forward to discussing moderation, the benefits of breaking frequently, and maintaining a well-hydrated lifestyle. I imagine there was some pressing concern, or possibly a pill-testing emergency that will explain her absence and inability to phone in a cancellation. Regardless, you people want to know about lunch. Today, I went to the Bagel Nosh on Wilshire and ordered the Albuquerque Turkey. It includes turkey, lettuce, tomatoe, pepperjack cheese (which the rookie sandwich jockey omitted), purple onion, and three slices of turkey bacon on a challah roll. This is also served with a handful of potato chips (I like when the chips are served by an individual with large hands. I get more chips that way) and a kosher dill pickle. I already had a spearmint to combat the breath. What did you have?

When I was in NYC, the crew from Tuna Can really treats you like family. We had authentic Italian food almost every meal except for the awesome White Castle trip by request from Hailey Young. Back in LA, I've never seen that much food.

JimJaded, I see you had a pita for lunch. I'm having one for dinner. I settled on the Philly Steak and added lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, green peppers, green olives, mushrooms, hot peppers, barbarque sauce, and tzatziki. I believe I added falafel to my order. I'm super full but can't help thinking about tomorrows lunching adventures.

Today I ended up at Chipotle. I settled on the Chicken fajita burrito. This is a generous helping of sliced, marinated chicken breast, sauteed green peppers and onions, spiced rice, with the green and the red salsas, topped with shredded white cheese and sour cream rolled into a flour tortilla. I washed it down with a cup of icewater garnished with two sliced lemons. The Chipotle (pronounced cheep-oat-lay) is a new addition to the 5 square block area near The Children's Limbo. I was a lot more excited about it until one of the Partners here, Howard, told me that it's owned by the same people that own McDonalds. blech. When they first opened (two weeks ago), they offered free lunch from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. I stood in the 40 minute line and ordered two burritos. I acted surprised when the cashier told me it was free (someone tipped me off outside before I entered the restaurant), so that they wouldn't think I was some kind of porker taking advantage of their benevolent generosity. I even asked for it "to go" so they would not be wise to my subterfuge. I ate the steak burrito in my car on the walk back to the office and then ate the shredded free-range pork burrito that evening for dinner.

Sometimes I go through a drive-thru and park somewhere in the shade to eat and listen to the radio. I ran through the Subway near my office today and parked in a shopping center lot across the way under a tree. This parking lot is almost empty because a grocery store has recently closed. A few minutes pass and some creep pulls up opposite the island with the tree. I look over and down into the car and its a dude with a Peter Berlin haircut in 2006. Somethings not right or he wouldn't be there, so I look straight ahead, listen to the NASCAR channel on XM Radio and finish my subway sandwich. The dude finally drives away and and a few minutes later when I leave the parking lot I look into the rear view mirror and see him and another car hooked up 6 or 7 rows back in the parking lot. It sucks, it ruined my lunch. I used to think of the place as part of my neighborhood and now it's being cruised by queers.

Chipotle is really excellent food in terms of the "Good food fast" genre. It's a great place to get a nice Carnitas burrito, I try to hit it up once a month. It reminds me of a place I used to go in Atlanta called "Tortiallas" whick also had excellent pork burritos.
As you can tell I ain't kosher.

Chipotle is pretty good.
I finally got around to trying Daphne's Greek Cafe the other day. The food was good and the service was good too. I'll definitely be going there again.

JimJaded: you should try Chipotle, though it's not something I would say "Oh you have to try it", it's still something I'm sure would give you a good fill up while tantalizing your senses. With that said I would like to announce to all interested parties that the spicy meatball that didn't show up at lunch day before yesterday totally came through today; points were scored by the nodester in the morning. Enough about me, you good people wanna know about-
LUNCH! Today, I went to the cafeteria in the lobby of the Marc Graue Building. I ordered the Pasta Pronto, which is the cafeteria's version of a pasta bar. The lady that makes this is a total spaz. Her nametag says "Maddy" and the name is very fitting, because she always looks and acts PISSED at the world (except when she's smoking cigarettes outside on her break). I watched her throw a total mental tantrum one day when she almost burned herself. She has four fry pans going at once. Her voice is EXTREMELY nasally, and she starts by saying, "Next in line, Garlic?" Then the customer has to say what meat they'd like (chicken, shrimp, sausage) and then list off all the vegetables they'd like. I chose garlic, chicken, and all of the vegetables except for broccoli (zucchini, mushrooms, diced tomatoes, shredded carrots, green peppers and onions). To this she adds a handful of corkscrew pasta. Next, Maddy offers a choice of alfredo, pesto or marinara. I chose the alfredo and the pesto. After she mixes it all together in the frying pan/wok, she empties it onto a styrofoam plate and I always say "thank you". The finishing table has shredded parmesan and spices (salt, black pepper, red pepper, oregano) and a tub full of bread sticks (one per customer, please). Lunch was good. So how'd you break bread today?

Today, I might try the Greco's Italian Restaurant daily special which is the "Say Cheese" (if they still have it). It is a thin crust personal sized pizza with melted mozzarella, cheddar, provolone and bleu cheese, topped with diced tomatoes and scallions.
This is served with a house salad and unlimited Coca-Cola refills for the unflinching price of $8.95 plus tax.
I like to go to Greco's because they have a small smoking section in the back where I can read undisturbed.
Then again, I might just pop down to the cafeteria in my office building here at the Bambini Limbo and order a quick sandwich.
I'll let you know after LUNCH!

Absolutely nothing against dinner, LUNCH just happens to be my favorite out of all three meals. I always like to have a good lunch otherwise I will feel weird all day. Sometimes I drag people along with me, like today when I dragged my assistant whose mind seemed to be occupied by other matters. I bought her a lunch and you should've seen her afterwards- you'd have thought someone injected her with testosterone. And now time for the real topic at hand;
LUNCH.
Today, I ventured outside at noon and visited the cafeteria in the MAGIC building across the street from Catnaper HQ. There is a steep incline down through a park area to get to this building. They recently re-paved the sidewalk with some kind of fancy new concrete and whenever it's raining, I have to be very careful not to slip and fall. That happened one afternoon and I scuffed up my tan cotton Dockers brand office leisure trousers. As my mind wandered towards litigious matters, I quickly looked around, but unfortunately, there were no eyewitnesses. Anyways, today, I ventured to the "other" cafeteria and opted for the 'House Special' Fish Fry. Three breaded and fried large pieces of ocean perch, 2 slices of rye bread, frenched fried potatoes and coled slaw. I asked the server if I could substitute macaroni and cheese for the coled slaw and he said that would be fine, but it would cost me extra. I indicated that cost was not an object. I also had a couple of lemon wedges to squirt over the top of the perch and a pile of Heinz 57 sauce to dip my frenched fried potatoes into. When I approached the cashier's register, I neglected to mention the substitution of macaroni and cheese in place of the coled slaw and the lady in the hairnet was none the wiser. My assistant had a fish fillet and has been chipper all day. The wonders of a good lunch. So what'd you have today?

My problem with restautant eating is that I like to DRINK when I eat. And as I now live in a city where I have to drive, this is no longer permissable.
