I still have my copy of Licensed To Ill on cassette even though I no longer have a player.

"Licensed To Ill" was the first (and I guess only) non-metal vinyl album I bought. I still have it somewhere, but it's unusable and worn out. All other CDs are great, in my opinion. They made interesting things.

Went to a concert once, just after the release of "Hello Nasty". All those hip trendy people didn't know what hit them halfway down the playlist when they started playing the rough stuff like Heart Attack Man.

When "You Got to Fight for Your Right" came out, the BB's were booked to play on American Bandstand. They were under the impression it would be done like most TV shows, with what's called a "TV Track" or mix-minus version. That is an instrumental mix with no lead vocals. The three of them would sing live over the track, just like most of their TV bookings.
The Bandstand people were not on board. They insisted on "full playback" which is a lip-sync. Beasties were not down with that.
The fights went back and forth all day and various managers and lawyers and such went at it. Bandstand (Dick Clark Productions)was not budging....do playback or not at all.
The Beasties came to a decision.
They went to their green room and duct taped the shower door to seal it shut and put the water on full. Then they took sharpies and wrote on the mirror: "Suck My Dick Clark" and walked out on the taping. It is only one of two or three times in the history of the bandstand that a performance was canceled on show day.

The first exposure I had to the Beastie Boys was in 7th grade when they opened for Madonna's 'Like a Virgin' tour. They were loud. They were punk rock. And they were loud. I was intrigued but never investigated. Fast fwd to three years later when Licensed to Ill was the soundtrack to 10th grade then again with Ill Communication where I stripped in NYC for a stint in '94 and signed all my postcards 'No Sleep til Brooklyn.' Thanks for being a part of my youth, MCA. Cause you can't, you won't and you don't stop.
