Metal, by it's very nature, is over the top theatrical. The fact is they still fill 50000 seats pretty much nightly all over the world. Homo or not.

Speaking for myself, in the early 80's the spiked armbands and such were part of the uniform, as it were. My stagewear consisted of whatever I wore that day...jeans, sneaks and a band shirt. With the spiked armbands thrown on at the last minute. The leather just wasn't for me...it was too fucking hot and too hard to put on.

Yeah, the Halford coming out thing was a disappointment.
