this coulda gone under youtube music i guess as well. I really enjoyed this. Beast was a HUGE album when i was a kid; i wasn't into metal really but everybody i knew owned this record.

Maiden always seemed very gay to me with Dickinson's OTT operatic wanking and their campy theatricality (oh, and the leather and studs, come on). Only thing gayer in metal is Rob Halford sucking a dick.

Wes Anderson is another twit who needs to make movies about something besides his own navel, although again, I did like Bottle Rocket, The RTs and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Metal, by it's very nature, is over the top theatrical. The fact is they still fill 50000 seats pretty much nightly all over the world. Homo or not.

Speaking for myself, in the early 80's the spiked armbands and such were part of the uniform, as it were. My stagewear consisted of whatever I wore that day...jeans, sneaks and a band shirt. With the spiked armbands thrown on at the last minute. The leather just wasn't for me...it was too fucking hot and too hard to put on.

Yeah, the Halford coming out thing was a disappointment.

The on-stage antics and theatrical effects are of little concern to me. I have watched some concert videos/DVDs, but I tend to get bored rather quickly. I can listen to music for hours, though.

The Classic Album series is quite good. Seen this one and some others (Black Sabbath, Motörhead).

I'm loving that series. My favorite so far has been on Never Mind the Bullocks, Here's the Sex Pistols. For a Grade 7 kid in Northern Idaho, the punk movement was all very exotic, altho we got to hear precious little of it. I know when I first got my hands on Never Mind... I was shocked at how "civilized" it was. Watching them pull the album apart into individual tracks shows that the raggedness of it was almost contrived.

I wonder what a 24 year old Johnny Rotten would've thought if someone would have told him 30+ years later that album would be considered "classic".

People only think Dickinson is gay because he plays golf. You can't slam Iron Maiden too much though. Without them at least half the script of This is Spinal Tap would never have been written.

Now I'm watching some of Season 2 of Portlandia. This is the episode where they sit on the couch and watch every episode of the fairly recent Battlestar Galactica series. I'm enjoying it, because I basically did the same thing. I was obsessed with that show after I finally saw it and watched episode after episode, back to back.

I watched the new HBO show after True Blood tonight. First episode, so I'll give them a pass on the monologues, trying to establish personalities. Interesting look into the process. Hour long HBO drama and no tits, that equals one demerit. Story lines gonna have to be very compelling to keep me.

Some old South Parks. Just watched the Thanksgiving one with the History Channel and aliens.

Couple of old seasons of Top Gear ( the real BBC version, not the piece of shit American rip off)

Favorite moments-trying to cross the English Channel in a Toyota pick up with an outboard motor strapped on the rear and a couple of empty oil drums tied to the side for buoyancy.

Having a drag race between some European sports car (I think it was either a Porsche or an Audi) and a guy on inline skates with three jet packs strapped on his back (skatemissile reached a top speed of 120 mph but sports car still won)

I like the one where Clarkson does a feature on the Reliant Robin and basically just goes around town flipping it on it's side. The part where he shows up to the Robin club meet, pulling into the lot full of people, and immediately rolling the fucking thing is funny as fuck.

That was made even funnier by watching The Stig do the same thing around the first corner on every lap he tried to test it on their track.

Wound up going to the bar in the middle, so I caught the first half of Serpico and last half of Dog Day. I like watching movies like these, because they remind me how far NYC has come since the 70's. Not that it doesn't have dirty cops and fags, just the look and feel of it.
