I bought the new Chronicles of Riddick game yesterday (for PC)

The first one in 2004 was great. Don't let the movie/book franchise fool you. This was actually a good movie game.

I'm not very far in the second one and it is really good. All of my gripes with it are really minor.

Games are such a crap shoot because everyone likes different things and not all features are important for everyone.

EDIT: SOrry, I might be a bit dense are you talking about LCD computer screens? Don't get one if gaming is your thing, their refresh rate is pathetically slow for FPS style games.

I am pumped for the new UFC game that's coming out on the 19th. I got the demo last week and it seems pretty promising.

I am not a big fighting game fan, but this seems pretty awesome.

Back when I played WOW all the guilds I played with that were doing raid content had officers and raid leaders that were members on Penny Arcade.

@Bill Hicks: the reason I like gamefaqs is that it takes about 2 minutes of looking at their forums to tell whether I would like a game. Especially if it's a multiplayer game.

I totally agree that it's not the only gaming resource that one should consult it's just that with gamefaqs I can quickly get a feel for what all sorts of people get out of a game.

I guess, but I've found that gamefaqs is the absolute lowest common denominator when it comes to gaming. They're slightly better than NeoGAF, but that's not saying much.

Does anybody play chess online?

I'm not too good, but everybody tells me it is better to play real people than computer AI if you want to learn. The problem is that whenever I play people online, if they don't like the way things are going in the game, they'll just log off.

Right now me and my girl have been playing Little Big Planet for the PS3. Its a really fun game.

I've been playing PC games only:

The Witcher -- this is a terrific RPG. It's based on a series of Polish novels. It was released a few years ago then rereleased with the English dialog rerecorded so it actually makes sense now.

Also it is the only RPG I have ever played that has a fun and useful alchemy system. Potions come complete with bizarre side effects and you can coat the blades of your swords in poisonous grease. It's pretty cool.

Also there are characters who are whores. Pretty much everyone in the game is a total bastard so trying to maintain a positive moral bent is pointless. But it is open ended to the point that you can play it how ever you like.

In addition to swords there is fist fighting and you can get into drinking contests.

Anyway, it is a very well done RPG and I strongly recommend it.

Beware if you buy it in Canada you will have to email the makers for a serial number and they don't check their mail on weekends. Some kind of fuck up with having a manual in English and French I believe.

Demigod -- I hate RTS games but for some reason I like this one. It could use a few more game modes but it does what it is seems to be trying to do quite well. Also pretty much everyone online seems to suck (either that or I am innately really good) so don't feel intimidated about being a noob if you try playing it.

I have to stress one thing here. You can actually play as a character who is a gigantic walking castle. No shit. With archers firing from turrets on your body when you are walking around.

Seriously, get a load of this fucking thing.



There are 7 other characters but I've only had the game for a week.

Call of Duty 5: World at War -- This game is totally standard fare for the franchise. It really stands out in multiplayer co-op mode for me. And unlike say, Left4Dead where communication in your team is really important (as well as getting called a nigger and a faggot by teenagers) this game is nice because everyone already knows what is going on.

And no Davis, I do not play chess online. The only times I play chess I pretend to be really serious and set up the game then forfeit after the first few turns because spoiling someone's chess game is more fun than playing actual chess. I could probably get into it if I were in jail. I did however play lots of Battle Chess on my old Macintosh, partly because it was one of very few games I had and also because it was cool to see the rook come to life and smash fuckers.

I finally finished Far Cry 2 a couple of weeks ago after many starts and stops. I didn't like the ending much, but really liked the game.

Man, I hated FC2. Too much repetitive terrain to cover doing too many repetitive missions.

Game was beautiful looking though.

Yeah, it was repetitive, but it was nice looking. I also thought that the enemies had reasonable AI, although I hated the rapid respawn. The solution for me was that I only played it in short bursts instead of prolonged sessions.

Have you heard about this one?

I've had a PS3 for a little while now. It recently broke down and I sent it in to Sony to fix. Paid $150 to do instead of buying a new one for $299. Now I can't get the fucking thing to connect to the internet without freezing. And the fan is now so loud that I can't play movies without it becoming a distraction. Sony says since it is a different problem I'd have to pay a new fee to fix. So basically I should have just bought the new one.

Games lately:

The Saboteur: I am having a blast with it. It has some GTA, some Mercenaries and some Godfather smoothed together. The atmosphere is fun, the guns are fun, your guy gets perks and improves. If you like the games I mentioned this will be fun for you.

Borderlands

At first I thought this was going to be Diablo style loot porn game but found myself enjoying it more and more as a pure shooter.

The co-op is fun as is the single player.

Serious Sam HD:
It's exactly what it is named. Still a great game, if they made any changer other than cosmetic ones I couldn't tell.

Mostly I do co-op games.

AI War is great space RTS and I hate RTS games. It is only single player or co-op versus 2 AI. No human VS.

Interesting strategy game, apparently is a labor of love for one guy who wrote the whole thing. Balanced very well.

Take a look, it's a bit difficult to explain it.

Having a ton of fun with this, wish we had more players though.

^ I saw that last week, but I already purchased the Penumbra series and the other games didn't sound too appealing to me.

Now they've hit $1 million in sales, though, and they're open sourcing most of the games! That is... highly unusual, and IMO very much worth supporting. Since the bundle has been extended for a week, I've pitched in.

By the way instead of using music it's fun to substitute your microphone (I play on PC). Your ship does more damage the more aggressively you scream!
