XPT does not have a gaming thread so I am starting one.

This is for you to talk about games and also to recommend or criticize games that you have tried. Also if you have a game review post it here.

I have been PM'ing people here talking about gaming for a while and it's about time to make gaming talk public.

I'll start this off:

The last game I played and really enjoyed was a point-and-click adventure series called "Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People". It is episodic and is up to chapter 4 at this point.

It is a fun game series but is not particularly challenging as far as adventure games go.

And you?

Pretty much all I play anymore is World of Warcraft. I wasn't even tempted to play anything else except the new Grand Theft Auto

What system did you you use for GTA4?

Talk about it and what you liked and did not like please?

Left 4 Dead [XBOX360]: While I only turn on my XBOX360 once every 3-4 months and usually just stick to my PC, last night a few friends harassed me into buying "Left 4 Dead" and playing online with them. It's hands down the best multi-player and "teamwork" experience in any game yet, and I normally hate online games since they're infested with teenagers - it's anything but. You're basically playing cooperatively in a "survival horror" fashion like 28 Weeks Later, playing against an A.I. based "Director" sort of like a dungeon master that keeps throwing new challenges (hordes of zombies) or help at you depending on how well or poorly the team is doing - its a constant struggle of never having quite enough resources, ammo, etc and having to struggle with the odds. Definitely great fun even for casual gamers that hate typical online gaming.

Grand Theft Auto 4 [XBOX360]: This game was like crack for a lot of people about half a year ago when it came out, but still a lot of fun even in casual play.

Is it better then Team Fortress 2? (Also by Valve)

Duke Nukem is the best co-op game ever.

Yes its better than Team Fortress, and better than Duke Nukem as far as co-op team play goes, mostly because you're in close quarters going room to room like a SWAT team having to clear our baddies, and if you don't stick close together then you can get separated from the group and the whole team inevitably will fall like a table once enough legs go missing - the team can survive if one player of the four dies, but almost never survives if two die. So there's a unique formula of constantly having to have each others' backs in sometimes dark rooms with only a flashlight cone worth of light - makes for an addictive replay factor.

my girlfriend and i are playing the new animal crossing, and it's kind of causing this strange friction in our relationship. she's super competitive, about animal crossing. she's obsessed with getting her house paid off before me and meeting all these goals she's set for herself. in animal crossing. all week she's been like, "did you catch a mole cricket yet?" "did you get a silver shovel? i got a silver shovel." i don't know what in the world she's talking about. it's fucking animal crossing. i just want to make my house look like a chess board, maybe do a little fishing. and hope bob or aziz moves into town, so we can hang out.

Steam recently had Overlord on sale for $9.99 for PC.

fable 2 has shown me on a daily basis last week how much of an evil prick i apparently am , im 1/4 through the game and i have a massive set of horns already and level 5 inferno spell...fucking nerd city

Does anyone else like point-and-click style adventure/puzzle solving games? Like Monkey Island.

Me. My favorite one is the Longest Journey. If you somehow missed it, get it ASAP.

Syberia was great. Longest Journey is highly recommended (Dreamfall was also great). Secret Files: Tunguska is also nice.

Just finished The Lost Crown. Extensive adventure, very good storyline.

Lately, I tried to play Vitality, but I have deleted it. Difficult controls, nothing happening.

I've played tons of these adventure games. Also the CSI stuff.

Fallout 3
Call of Duty 5

CoD5 is close to CoD4 but World War 2 weapons instead of modern weapons.

Fallout 3 had a fucking disappointing ending.

When I rarely play computer games, it will be Total War: Rome, Civilization III or or Combat Mission 2 (http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=58&Itemid=98) which would give Alex Panzie what passes for a hard on (Tigers, Panthers, T-34s, oh my!).

That said, wouldn't mind recommendations for PC games of the above ilk...

Gunker: you ever try "Company of Heroes"? That continues to be my favorites realtime strategy game series. Games come and go but I always go back to that one.

@freestylah: I have played through dreamfall, the longest journey and syberia.

I warn you that Syberia 2 kind of stinks.

Company of Heroes came bundled with my graphics card. I hate RTS games and if anyone wants my copy I will happily give it to them.

If you like turn based strategy games you should check out "Fantasy Wars". There is no micro-management involved, no base building.

And I have a Civilization 4 game going which I have been slowly picking through for months. I'm about to break all of my treaties and carpet bomb the map with nukes. It isn't really a sound strategy but no other nations have declared war on me and I want to see if I can fight everyone at once.

I'm still loving call of duty5 right now.. its not as good as 2 but better than 4:) the nazi zombie mode is a blast..

my all time favorite single player games are max payne 1 and 2.. the storyline just made them

im fucked up, i cant play those 1st person game, they get me dizzy

Gunker: Civ 4(especially the new Colonization mode is very neat, it's basically a remake of the old Colonization game), Medieval2: Total War, Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron...

Civilization has been my main pc addiction since civ 2...

the total war series is also high in my heart...currently have medieval 2 installed and playing again.

Gunker: you should try Europa Barbarorum a fantastic mod for rome total war. Free and awesome.

Anyone else playing GTA IV for PC?

I'm having a pretty good time with the multiplayer and have barely touched the missions.

As far as I know there hasn't been a game involving good car combat since Carmageddon about 10 years ago.

I have picked up Left 4 Dead, GTA 4 and World In Conflict for my spanking new PC, don't know how often i'll get to play them with WOW and all but so far these games are all top notch. Highly recommended to all interested ( at least the pc versions).

GTA IV on the PC runs like a dog, San Andreas looks better and plays smoother. Playing Fall Out 3.

I am not having any problems yet with my GTA 4, I had heard that but mine is pretty steady so far. Fallout 3 is to be my next purchase, I better start turning in cans

Fallout 3 is pretty fun. Lots of different directions to go.

I'm not sure if any of you were in love with the multiplayer on Goldeneye 007 (in the late '90s on the N64) other than me.

I just want point out that if you own any Source games you can download an absolutely stunning conversion of Goldeneye into the modern era.

It's still in beta but it works very well. My only complaint is the number of console commands one needs to remember in order to run a server.

I would like to strongly recommend the game "Dead Space". I have been playing through it on the PC but I believe it was released for the consoles as well.

If you like survival/horror games check it out. It is filled with great scary jolts and is one of those games you should play in the dark.

I think this is a pretty fair review. (PC version)

I just picked up Resident Evil 5 for my PS 3. Good shit and a must buy.
