You might have to look up some stuff specific to the distribution of Linux you are using or for which shell interface its loading. Different distributions may also handle software installations differently so you need to look into that. Its been a few years since I played with Linux and some stuff may have changed. Most of my experience was with Slackware, RedHat and another distro whose name is alluding me at the moment.
