Figgs, if you have an iPhone, get an app called "Lose It!" You enter your current weight and your goal weight and it'll calculate how many calories you can consume per day to reach this goal.
Then it lets you log your daily intake of food and calculates the calories you've consumed. It has a built-in database of common foods, including brand name and restaurant items. For a lot of store-bought food items, you just have to scan the barcode on the packaging and the nutritional info will just pop up.
There are probably other similar apps out there you could try, but this one really seems to work for me.
