That's really strange. I wonder if they scanned the wide part assauming 1020i and did the 4:3 scan assuming analog NTSC, and somehow assumed that the extra detail in the 1020i screen made it worth "zooming in" whereas NTSC made it pointless to go after detail?
Few people have true 1020i gear - few displays can really resolve 1920x1020 - so I question the decision. Who knows? James Cameron has always framed his shots for 4:3 when shooting but I don't know anything about the T3 guy.
