They kicked ass about eight years ago.

They did and they do. They kicked ass when my ex and I actually loved each other. That's how long they've kicked ass. And fantastic live.

I just can't believe they slipped under my radar for so long, I mean I've actually had them on my ipod for about 2 years and still hadn't given them a chance.

Their latest album, The Hunter, is a gem. I'm sure the dyed in the wool fans will get all comic book snobby about the direction of the band and all that wah wah, but they flat out kick ass and I like it.

They're not coming to my town on this tour, and I'm flabbergasted that I missed them with the Deftones on the last tour, but maybe I'm gonna have to travel and catch them somewhere along the way. I wanna throw some 'bows in the pit

I'm getting past the whole "direction selling out" thing. My tastes have always leaned to the more heavy side, but I was never at a point where it was all I listened to. Even when stylistically the bands I was in were careening into Venom territory, I was always the one who insisted that we do a pretty true rendition of Tiny Dancer. Good for Slayer that they've maintained a consistent sound for 30+ years. But better for Metallica that they've allowed themselves to grow musically, yet stay true to the heavier side of the spectrum. Except St. Anger. talk about your pieces of shit.

i've really been on a foo fighters kick btw... for like a week or so. grohl is just a monster when you consider his history.yes?.

I prefer Grohl as a drummer, where he's a monster, but he makes solid pop rock.

I saw the Foo a few months ago, in Phoenix. Someone gave me the tickets, turned out to be one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. He rocked the joint.

Grohl is a machine as far as work goes. Side projects, putting in work on other folk's projects. I think he's pretty talented, but he puts out so much content that at some of it has to be darned good. What's the saying about throwing shit on a wall?

Did you see the doc about the recording of St. Anger? The shrink, team coach, whatever the fuck he was, completely took over the creative process. Sure, the machine was very obviously broken, but to throw out the dynamics of how the machine functions and replace it with psychobabble was a recipe to a truly shitty creation. Altho, I really liked the title track. It had a "Battery" feel to it. But the rest of it? Garbage in, garbage out.

I honestly like the post- Master of Puppets stuff, except St. Anger. But I like it in a different way than Ride the Lightning, which I like in a different way than Kill 'em All. They're the Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple of this generation. A tangent within a frame. Their albums are all very different bodies of work, but there's an underlying continuity, a certain I don't know what, that ties them all together.

I was actually supposed to see Converge and Mastodon about 6 years ago but I got injured during Converge's pit and was bleeding too much so the venue kicked me out of the building before Masterdong went on.
