Tell me more about this. Does it amplify as well as equalize? I have a circa 1980 BSR EQ that I ordered from DAK Industries back in the day. I made a minor boost but could make wild swings in frequencies. Due to general laziness I do not have it cabled into any of my systems right now but if this subject continues I may get it out of the original shipping box today and stretch it out.

Why on earth would anyone strap a 10 band graphic across their rig? Do your speakers suck? Is there a room node you're trying to attack? You ain't going to get at it with a 10 band! There's a reason these things have gone the way of the Philco....you don't want or need the phase shift and loss anymore with modern speaker systems. Buy some good home speakers, place them properly in the space and leave the signal alone. You don'tknow more about frequency control than the mastering engineer and you're not improving fidelity.

I did it because I was in College, and LEDS were way cool. Plus people would come to my dorm room stoned and we'd play The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon or Riders on the Storm and try to isolate different instruments or vocals.

I'm not an audiophile but most dorm rooms need a little help. I had Fisher Studio Standard stuff back then. It took me until about 2002 to burn up the tuner/amp. A pretty good run with a very round, full sound. I still have and use the Fisher turntable but nothing else. Somewhere I have a Teac cassette deck but I'm not sure where my old cassettes are except for a few choice live recordings of me and my college buddies when we got access to the college stations airwaves.

Of course, that was then. I had goofy shit on my rig in those days too. Today's speakers are light years ahead of those old rat boxes.

Not too long ago someone was playing Zep I on vinyl and it felt all wrong 'coz the pops and scratches were in all the wrong places from where mine were.

Haha I know. It's pretty bad when you're at a friends house and the vinyl is spinning and you say "Hey you took my album it always skips at that bridge".

I used to have "Vinyl Sundays" here at the house in the Spring and Fall. We'd open all the doors and windows so you could hear the primary stereo outside, and drink beer, shoot skeet, grill and listen to my old albums or anything anyone brought. We'd wind everything down about 9pm so everyone could go home and get to work the next morning. It got out of hand and when people started inviting their own guests to my house whom I didn't like we cancelled it. I think it's time to start it over again, invitation only.

I just bought this little gem at a yard sale in Santa Monica. Some poor guy's den/man cave all spread out on his lawn for sale and a bunch of toys and crap in his garage. I offered $25 and he was happy. It's an early 80's Yamaha with the Pickering and all the bits and bobs. Dust cover, dust brush, wiper, original hardbox for the cartridge, etc.

^^^Those things are bright, but the light falls off in a short distance. I see uses for them but for projection maglites still seem to be working better.
