You can buy an airplane for the cost of a used car. You don't have to be rich to buy one...but might to own one. Planes are like boats too large to trailer. Even worse. You cannot park a plane just anywhere unless you have your own airfield and hangar, so you have Hangar storage fees. If you think your car inspection iand DL exams are a hassle try dealing with airworthy certificates for your plane and self.
I've dabbled with both and chose boats as my path over the planes...if I run out of gas in a boat, I have plenty of time to get on the radio and deal with the situation as opposed to a plane. (Never done either and never will, but I like my chosen odds).
It all goes back to the maxim I learned from one of my departed best friends: If it flies, fucks or floats, it is cheaper to lease it".
