Ever since I gave up the booze, I’ve become more addicted to caffeine via Jolt cola and Mountain Dew. It was great when Jolt expanded their products into several new flavors like black cherry and some toxic blue stuff I can’t remember the name of. The bad thing is that you can’t find it everywhere, but Mountain Dew, however, is all over the place like migrant workers. Mountain Dew has always been known for it’s caffeine kick and Diet Mountain Dew had or still has the highest caffeine levels of any major national brand despite Jolt, which may only be a regional product. A few years back Mountain Dew Code Red appeared and then last summer it was an orange flavored offshoot called Live Wire. It was a summer only release, but it started creeping back last spring. It was okay, but I ain’t a fan of orange soda. Anyway, much to my surprise a few weeks ago there appeared Mountain Dew Pitch Black that is a black grape flavored version. Since I like Schweppes dry grape ginger ale it was nice to see something grape done by the Dew. This variant is another limited edition only available until Halloween which is cool because it’s my fave holiday being the sorcerer of the whores that I am. It’s light, crisp sweet, but not tart and unlike other lame grape drinks it’s jacked up with plenty of caffeine.
