Here is sorta my final word (though you know it won't be):

We live in a culture where it's customary, but nobody is forcing you. I work with a higher percentage of young females (Wooo!) and homos than most business. Not exactly the most intimidating folks around. Are you going to bars where all the servers are Hells Angels?
I don't want a union or some guaranteed wage; I am confident enough in what I do to wing it on tips.
I didn't make the rules, and nobody needs to go to a bar or restaurant.
When did everyone turn into Panzer.....
