First he was offered the Steeler's job, which eventually went to Chuck Noll, but turned it down because he was only 3 years in as HC at Penn State and felt he owed them more. He was making 20k and the Steelers offer he turned down was 70K.

Then he was courted 2x by the Patriots in the early 70's and early 80's. First time he came to a verbal agreement that he withdrew from, citing shaky ownership.

I stand corrected, I forgot/didn't realize they offered him the Steelers job. I did remember the Pats offers though. I read somewhere that the Steelers job was the only one that was really tempting though.
