90% of what I download is either very obscure, not on a major label, or out of print........
This is simply furthering the plutocracy agenda under the guise of piracy. biggest waste of resources/time and energy while the economy crumbles and brute authority is replacing true liberties in the name of "security" that I've seen since the major league baseball steroids hearings.
Also big fucking LOL/WTF moment at the connection to that Swiss Beats guy.

Has there been any good music made since about 1989?

Plenty. If you're open enough to try some music you didn't try before, something good should be out there for you. It's quite time-consuming to find the gems most of the time for me.

Rumor is that the MegaUpload guys have hired Bob Bennett, the lawyer that defended Bill Clinton during his impeachment.

Obscure non-major label music needs your money way more than the mainstream stuff. Just sayin'
Out of print then? How about asshole bands that purposely under run their shit just to charge absurd prices to collector scum on ebay. It's absolutely hysterical how much assholes will shell out for some ultra limited edition of the latest Sunn O))) vinyl or pay over $100 for the first capitalist casualties 7" (how's that for irony) I guess it depends on your definition of a small label also. There's been tons of horror stories of bands saying how much it sucked ass to be on Relapse. I think it's kind of a straw man argument to say CD units being moved actually translates into any kind of profit for the band unless they are literally making them their selves. I think they'd much rather you pay to see them live or buy a T-Shirt.

The contents of the article linked to here are absolutely laughable. The main premise that people are willing to and want to pay for digitally accessed content when they don't have to is ridiculous. Only the high-end crowd will pay for what they don't get in a better quality otherwise, meaning Blu-Ray Discs and not, once more, heavily compressed blocked out, artefact-ridden garbage. Tough shit if idiots don't see the difference.

maybe it's the cheap beer talking but I just thought I'd like to make it clear that Stephen O'Malley is a total primadonna shitbag midget cunt face and I hope his records get pirated from here to eternity.

It's just funny to me O'Malley actually thought or thinks he going to become a famous rockstar doing drone music. Just the whole pretentiousness of Southernlord in general. O'Malley and Anderson both horde their own vinyl releases so they can make an ebay killing selling to pizza faced fanboy idiots a few years later. O'Malley had a tantrum a few years ago and almost killed someone in the audience flinging a monitor into the crowd. (I realize this very hypocritical of me when I find the audience abuse antic of other acts like AxCx, G.G. Allin, The Dwarves ...ect amusing).....It different when he tries to play the "I'm a tortured delicate deranged genius" bullshit. ......I adore all kinds of noisy music from total lo fi shit to more serious acts, but the total art faggery of some acts is absurd. Stuff like Sunn can be rewarding and powerful but ultimately it's a bunch of assholes with lots of amps who sound like they are turning their guitars for 80 minutes or leaving them up against the speaker cabs and walking out of the room, get over your selves......
..........I apologize to anyone who bothered to take the time to read my long pointless off topic rant, it was probably filled with contradictions and spelling/grammar errors.

I haven't listened to anything from southern lord in a long, long time. I remember they used to put these little things on their CD's advertising their other bands. Every fucking band, whether it was Goatsnake or Thorr's Hammer was described as "Sabbath Fried" or "From the bowels of Black Sabbath" or "The sick love-child of Black Sabbath and Pentagram". I didn't know if those two goofs actually thought every one of their bands sounded like Sabbath, or if it was some kind of inside joke that went as far as to be passed on to the consumer.
There used to be this guy that would show up at every show I went to who would get wasted and would end up stomping around the back of the crowd screaming "Black Sabbath!!!!". Me and my friends always joked that he was probably related to Greg Anderson.

Heh, I used to like to think of Eye Hate God as Black Sabbath in the midsts of a bad crack binge.........
Sabbath is a huge basis for the sludge sub genre in general but at some point it just turns into another cliche' buzz word like "blastbeat" "brutal" "sick" "pulverizing" whatever. .....hard to be avoided when only so many adjectives or ways you can re-arrange them to describe a type of music.
....That would actually be pretty funny to use that as a direct description of a band like Thor's Hammer......seemed like they would have aped some older doom death originators like "the bastard child of Winter and Anathema's Crest Fallen demo!"

Ahhh, that brings back mems. One time, at a High On Fire show Pike kicked some drunk idiot that I went to high school with and hated, right square in the chest for fucking with his mic stand. It was one of the greatest things i've ever seen. He was standing right in front of me being a drunk jackass, and MP kicked him so fucking hard, he went flying in to me, and me into the person behind me, etc. Good fucking times.

I think I'd be more afraid of Pike biting me with his snaggletooth.

Lars Ulrich won't be able to afford an outdoor shark tank bar.
I hate the argument that it is just millionaires wanting more money. Everyone got on Lars Ulrich when Napster went down. For some crazy reason some bands supported it. Alanis Morrisette... the Offspring. I was always like WTF, you're losing money. They took the side of Napster because it was unpopular to take the position that stealing music was cool.
The opponents are right, music should be free. It is not like millionaires are the only ones who can make music. You don't need their music. You can spend half of your life learning an instrument and becoming a great singer or songwriter. You can make your own music. It will be free to you because you make it. How sweet would that be? Go out crybabies and make your free music. You can do it. I support your incredibly dumb ideas.

I just wanted to make a snappy South Park reference. And I agree with you. It is stealing. I think Lars catches hell because it was seen as fan unfriendly. It's the sort of thing that mouthpieces do, while the talent just shrugs their shoulders and says "it's the suits making these decisions". Right or wrong, I think that's how it was seen.
