That's my point, BI. You're able to have other priorities because your neighbour is taking care of important things. You're the little brother who smokes weed all day in the basement of your big brother's house. You don't have to do anything because your big brother pays the bills.
And let's be honest for a sec. Are Calgary and LA (southern Cali in general) really comparable? Big Canadian cities are far from free of homicidal maniacs. Or crime in general. It would be like comparing crime rates in my little university town to crime rates in Vancouver. Using that comparison to paint an entire population suddenly turns Canada into the collection of homicidal maniacs.
I'm not saying you're completely wrong in your assertions about the US, because you're not. But the way you're coming at it is.
