What's the basic gist of Ron Paul supporters anyway? The stuff on the Alex Jones shows is quite a 24/7 commercial for the guy currently and the campaign ads want to truck everything down, no department of education and more. Strange.

He's for legalizing marijuana. Or at least for leaving it up to each state to decide. Because of this, he gets a lot of support from college-age voters. In general, his supporters sound irrational and fanatical to me. He won't be the Republican nominee, he'll never be President, and he can pretty much get Obama re-elected if he decides to run as a 3rd party candidate.

Obammy gonna get re elected either way. Repubs gonna put up a kook, and get no cross over votes.

If Paul dumlucked in to the Presidency, he might get wacked during the inauguration. And you'll find a drugged out Iranian half mile away with a slingshot in his pocket that will be convicted and executed before he sobers up.

If Paul runs independent he's the biggest son of a bitch in this country.

"Charlie the Angry Cripple" Krauthammer has a good column this week about Paul from the GOP perspective. Essentially, he argues that Ron Paul knows he can't win the nomination and is setting the stage for his Senator son, Rand Paul. I don't often agree with Charlie Crip, but, yeah, the idea of libertarians setting up a dynastic succession is kind of amusing.

It's clearly not Abu Ghraib 2, but it would be covered that way by the news media if a Republican were in office. Obama gets a free pass on everything: Keeping Guantanamo Bay open, expanding the powers of homeland security, blowing up an American citizen with a Predator drone, illegal recess appointments, saying he campaigned in 57 states during the last election. And I'm sure there's a bunch of other shit that I'm forgetting. Bush would've gotten hammered for any one of this things.

I really don't buy the "liberal media" argument when half the Dems I know are calling for Obama's head over those same issues. But that's neither here nor there, since they're US citizens and have standing to bitch, misguided though they may be. It's not like they're, say, some Canukistani who wore out his welcome here and is bitter about it.

Dubya got his free pass back in 2002, when he insinuated that Saddam Hussein was behind the 9/11 attacks and in cahoots with Osama bin Laden. The MSM only started to criticize Dubya later on, when it was obvious that the occupation of Iraq had landed us in the shit.

The MSM also gave the Tea party a free pass by failing to investigate the Tea Party's roots in the offices of former GOP House Majority Leader Dick Armey and various PACs associated with the GOP.

I think the call to go after bin Laden was a gutsy one so I gave him his props for that, but the capital from that died away quickly, not because of the economy, but because the people know what he really is now, a junior Senator from Illinois in way over his head.

It wasn't successful due to anything he did, other than give the green light. I'll give you some on the economy, but I think you're discounting the shock a good portion of the country had at the refusal to display the pics. I also think that making sure he got a proper ceremony really make people wonder what this clown's priorities really are.

Halliburton announces 284 percent increase in war profits

WASHINGTON, July 25 (HalliburtonWatch.org) -- Halliburton announced on Friday that its KBR division, responsible for carrying out Pentagon contracts, experienced a 284 percent increase in operating profits during the second quarter of this year.

The increase in profits was primarily due to the Pentagon's payment of "award fees" for what military officials call "good" or "very good" work done by KBR in the Middle East for America's taxpayers and the troops.

Despite the scandals that plague KBR's military contracts, the Pentagon awarded $70 million in "award" fees to the company, along with four ratings of "excellent" and two ratings of "very good" for the troop logistics work under the Army's LOGCAP contract.

The Pentagon has provided preferential treatment to Halliburton on a number of occasions, including the concealment from the public of critical reports by military auditors.

Audits conducted by the Pentagon's Defense Contract Audit Agency determined that KBR had $1 billion in "questioned" expenses (i.e. expenses which military auditors consider "unreasonable") and $442 million in "unsupported" expenses (i.e. expenses which military auditors have determined contain no receipt or any explanation on how the expenses were disbursed).

But the top Pentagon brass ignored these audits and rewarded KBR's work anyway.

Halliburton's earnings announcement comes on the heels of new reports showing the Iraq and Afghan wars have already cost U.S. taxpayers $314 billion and that another ten years of war will cost $700 billion.

In another coup for Halliburton, a federal judge this month decided that whistleblowers may not sue U.S. companies for fraud if payment for services was made in Iraqi, not U.S., money. Halliburton was paid over $1 billion in Iraqi oil money during the first 15 months of the occupation. The judge's ruling means the False Claims Act cannot be used to offer large rewards to corporate insiders who reveal wrongdoing or overcharges for services. The law is considered America's most successful deterrent against contractor fraud, but the judge's decision will help Halliburton and other contractors avoid tough scrutiny in Iraq.
