Upstate doesn’t mean much. To the greater populace of NY state, it means anything north Orange & Rockland Counties (Newburgh for the laymen). I grew up in “upstate”, which to me always meant “north of Albany”.

Virginia explains a lot, especially if she’s been there long enough to develop a draw. Certain parts of that state are right up there with the coal mining communities in eastern Kentucky. It’s amazing she has any teeth.
