The Harmony Burlesque Theater. The most awesome and bizzare place ever. There were 3 of them at one time, but the one by TriBeCa was the best one. I think you can find The Village Voice story about it online somewhere.
I used to go there for cheap handjobs and stuff around 85-93 or so.
Picture a damp basement in a rotting building with no safe fire escapes and one skinny stairway in and out. Now fill that room with about 50 lounge chair/recliners in various states of rot. Now picture a bare bulb hanging down a wire above a simple wooden stage riser 4x8 splintered "stage" with a 50yr old Puerto Rican woman slightly moving upon it. Around the room sitting in the barcoloungers are 30 or so old man-bukkake boy types in raincoats or business attire. Upon their laps are 30 or so bullet wound drug addled stripper chicks who have all been fired from regular strip joints or sexworld peep places for drugs and general appearance. The current Terri Weigel would have been the best looking girl in the room.
I used to go find a Courtney Love-looking blonde junkie chick and give her 30 or 40 bucks to rub me out. Drop a load on the floor, no problem. Spunk up a chair, no problem. There were no security guys, wait staff, or even a mop boy to be found.
The location in Chelsea was a bit different. It had a bigger stage and the chairs were all lined along one wall with a few feet between the chairs and the stage. You entered through a turnstyle and there was a box office/DJ booth at the front door. You could still get your rocks off inside, but it was more on the down low than the other locations.

If any of you were at The Market Street Cinema in San Fran during the late 80s - early 90s, it was a similar setup but about 8 levels lower on the socio-economic chain.

Man, I miss it. Rudy ran them out of business with zoning laws and proximity to schools and churches laws. Rat Bastid.
