I've tried it both ways. I spent a whole day following a recipe for northern Italian lasagna a while back. I was boiling noodles and making tiny meatballs and all sorts of shit all day long. It was OK. The Cook's Illustrated quick lasagna recipe I posted tasted just as good and I was eating it an hour and a half after I started.
