How great of a defense was it to grandstand for 2 years, paying your lawyer your life savings, for a case you were never going to win? At least Max and Jeff kept their heads down. Max didn't keep his head down at all. In fact, all of his taunting of the justice system is what many believe ultimately got him in trouble. After getting off scott-free in 2002, Max boasted how stupid his prosecutors were, how much of a waste of money the trial was, and how he will continue to destroy lives in the name of free speech. Fuck, his website used to have the tagline: "Join now, before Max is locked-up for good". That fucker reveled in the ineptitude of the justice system and the apparent hard-on they had for him. A lot of people firmly believed that it was Max's boasting that ultimately got him in trouble. Taunting the DOJ is playing with fire.
