Thinking of getting the iPhone for Verizon. Anyone have experience with it? Is it worth it?

iPhone 3 here, does what it is supposed to. XPT works fine on it. So does iTunes. Lots of other 3rd party apps out there. No glitches after over a year. Charge lasts a long time. RV'ers in general prefer Verizon because they have the widest coverage. No Flash player on it, though.

I had an Iphone/Android discussion with someone the other day. I have neither and the person was an Android proponent. Sleek interface is the only edge he gives the Iphone. He put it like this, his Android phone (1st gen Samsung Galaxy, touch screen adn keyboard) has a dual core, 1.2 Mhz processor, the Iphone, a single .9Mhz. That makes the Android like a small computer, and the Iphone a toy. Android's app market is supposed to be not as restrictive as Apple's. Plus, you can upgrade the Android phines by purchasing a larger memory chip. Apple wants all your money, and doesn't allow that.

Which did you prefer? Pros/Cons from a consumer that has gone both ways would be useful here. I'm sure the Velvet guy isn't the only one waffling on which way to go on an upgrade.

iPhone 4S has a dual core processor. A less restrictive app market only means that the market is inundated with a lot more shit. As far as being able to upgrade the hardware, fuck that. If my phone needs a hardware upgrade at any point prior to the expiration of my two year contract, the phone was a piece of shit to begin with.

Nah. It is memory, wouldn't call it hardware. You want the basic Iphone, you get 8gb. You want 16gb, it is $100 more, and so forth. I believe, you get an Android phone, like the Galaxy, and it comes with a 2gb microSD card. You want more memory, and you can go get a 32gb microSD for like 60-80bucks(?). If you are going to be taking HD video with it, you should spend the extra and get a Class10 microSD card. That is the only reason I've read where you would notice a difference in performance out of the cards.

i crushed my droid and made a seamless transition to the ipwn4s. like anything apple they make it easy.
i like the facetime so i can keep my kid honest and the fact that i have an immense itunes library that i can carry on the phone is good too. the siri feature is pretty cool but you're only going to use it so much unless you travel alot. drone around town day to day and you'll forget you have it unless you need to talk to text or whatever. of course my previous droid had talk to text so there ya go.

I think it's just what you get used to. To think I used to think Windows Mobile was the way to go. I changed to 'Droid on this phone before Windows last big release but the other day I plugged in my old LG Fathom in wifi mode and I couldn't even navigate it to the web...I'd totally forgotten the thumbstrokes to get anywhere.

Back on topic... My only latest purchases have been shit for this Lab pup. Everything from crates to heartguard tablets to tennis balls from the "Day Old Tennis Ball Store" to puppy shots and vet visits for the shots. (J/K about the balls, but a lot of money has been blown on things he shits out his anus) I'm about 2K in on this dog so far... He shows great promise though. It's a good thing no one really adds up what you get out of a dog per duck or bird retrieved.

I'd do Android just because it has flash when needed. I use the free "Skyfire" browser on 'droid and it handles everything pretty well and it's default is to save a video rather than just stream it. (though it asks).

They are cool. I don't have a 2, but the only real difference is the cameras I think. Some guys at Exxxotica were walking around taking pictures with them. Digital camera w/ a 9 inch screen, that was cool.

Mine is wifi only also. It is very nice to plop on the couch and surf the web, w/o having to balance a laptop on me knees. Also convenient to take in the bathroom and play a game or surf the web while you take a shit.

If your cable company has an app for it, you can get your entire channel line up on the thing.

Only thing I've found annoying is it won't charge from USB2.0 or a car charger.


*****On a note about hard drives, the floods in Thailand are supposed to lead to a hard drive shortage in 2012. Prices are already going up. The 2tb one I bought for $89.99 a couple months ago is now $229.99. If the Fatman went to cloud storage for his collection, he could make a mint selling off his stockpile of hard drives.

I got a screen protector for it from a kiosk at the mall. It was like $30, but a lifetime guarantee, and I didn't have to fight with the fucking thing for an hour trying to get the air bubbles out of it. Instead I got to look down the shirt of the 20 something bim that did it. Their out on the guarantee is that you have to keep your receipt, so I stuck it in the pocket of the case I have. Thing has been holding strong for 5 months now, not peeling up.

Sometime soon I'm going to have to break down and spend the $39 for the Ipad to HDMI adapter. Sucks to pay that much for a 38cent piece, but whattaya gonna do.
