oddly enough i think they do use it for that now... but it was originally a symbol used by the Knights Templar and basically it symbolizes: the arms of christ, the arms of lucifer and the blood of both... i have always been fascinated by it because it is a perfect representation of Duality, much like the yin yang wich in recent decades was stripped of its original dualistic nature and turned into a hippyish "all is one type" thing.
it would take me hours to explain the whole story... but i think thats a perfect rundown of it.
