I don't deal with dispensaries much. I know most in Spokane got shut down by the local authorities about the time I started gearing up to start taking them samples. I have to agree with the Feds on this one, tho. I think for the most part they are less about patients than they are about "legally" dealing. A lot of the problem with the medical laws is they are written so vaguely you almost can't help but trip over the loopholes.
My insurance guy was telling me not long ago he's had a bunch of clients come in about tacking a rider on their policies to cover their grow ops. He goes out, takes pictures, makes sure all the wiring is done right and the company underwrites them.
I think the whole "tax and regulate" thing isn't going to work. To expect outlaws to suddenly come in from the cold and start doing quarterlies or sales tax is just not going to happen. Tobacco is hard to grow your own, but growing weed is pretty simple. And as a fairly hard right winger, the idea of using taxation to solve any problem is pretty much outside of my worldview.
It's all about job justification. The DEA employs a lot of people. You can't just dump them out of work tomorrow. I mean, you could, and it wouldn't bother me, but it just isn't going to happen overnight.
