Courtney Love had him killed. Who would commit suicide and leave that broad to raise your kid. Heroin addiction and depression can't be that bad. If it wasn't Courtney, then it was the Jews. Maybe Dave Grohl, because he was tired of playing second fiddle, but more likely Love or Jews.

His death was sadder than Lennon though. Lennon was already rocketing downhill. Cobain probably had a couple good albums left in him.

I agree. I think I was about 15 or 16 when he died, and I found nothing more depressing, or funny for that matter, than all of my female classmates using razor blades to x out "Trent" and re-carve "kurt" in their arms.

I don't believe that Courtney killed him, other than just being another brick in the wall, so to speak.

You never know what really goes on in someone's head, even though he left lots of writings. But the kid never stood a chance. A family decimated by alcohol, abuse, drugs, divorce, mental illness and suicide. Busting your ass for stardom, because money and fame will fix everything...but it doesn't. Being the source of the income of however many people. The constant wonder of who of your friends is really a friend now. Being stuck in a really fucked up marriage with someone who he was very obviously deeply in love with, but who he had to have known was extremely toxic. Throw a new baby with this toxic woman into the mix. Throw in an addiction that he knew was out of control. Throw in the shame and self loathing that comes with that. Throw in an unending, unexplainable stomach pain that had to not only be pretty excruciating, but at the same time making him wonder what kind of cancer or tumor was eating him up. Throw all this on a kid who was already prone to depression. All being played out in front of the camera's unblinking eye. It's easy to say he was rich, should've walked away, whatever. At the end of the day, some people are just not strong enough to handle it.

I've been to the point of just wanting out. Many times. There's nothing romantic, nothing funny, nothing that should make teenage girls carve your name into their arms. Just pain and hopelessness that makes the abyss look like the only solution.

I remember the Rooney thing. It bothered me because he had the attitude of "just get over it". For some people it's just not easy. And people telling you to just get over it adds to the shame and self loathing. "It sounds so easy, why can't I just get over it? How fucked up am I?"

Well, that was a shiny happy rant. Fuck.

Rooney had the balls to tell it like he saw it. When he was a war correspondent he wanted to do an article on B-17 bomber crews. So how did he research the article? Most reporters would have interviewed the crews while they were on the ground safely at the airfield. Rooney went on a mission. When he came back, he asked why they were called "flying fortresses" because enemy gunfire would tear through those planes like 12 gauge shotgun tears through a soda can.

Cobain was a junkie by choice. He chose to take the h train to its final destination, when most others of his means would call Betty Ford and go on Prozac and Methadone. Fuck him. He's just like other whiny dead junkie Heath Ledger. Dead attention whores.

I don't buy the whole "unexplainable stomach pain" thing. When I was a teen, I had horrible, excruciating "unexplainable stomach pain" as well. My folks took me to doctor after doctor trying to figure out what was causing me to be so discomforted with a lack of an ulcer, tumor, digestive disorder, etc. Finally, I went to a gastroenterologist who basically told me I was a pussy-wimp and it was all in my head. He prescribed an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety and would you know it, the pain fucking dissapeared.

The digestive system is pretty cut and dry. When something is up, a properly performed upper GI/Colonoscopy/blood-urine-feces test will reveal any real problems that may be ocurring.

I do agree with Barry on the point that you never really know what's going through someone's head. Kurt definitely wasn't the first suicide that seemed without merit. But as for the stomach pain, unexplained=anxiety. Take it from me, you can't take care of anxiety when you're doing hard drugs that would completely nullify the effects of a real pill.

I think he killed himself because he was a goddamn junkie. Plain and simple.
