It's $1 and less than 10 minutes near me, in Brooklyn! It got this chewy crust that the greasy goombas can't muster.

I can't eat Papa John's. They put a ton of sugar into both their sauce and dough and it destroys by blood sugar. The only fast-food delivery chain I'll order from is Domino's. They have a cool app for the iPhone and their crust & sauce are both pretty neutral, so you can pick and choose what toppings you want and it's not too bad. Basically, if I'm feeling lazy and in the mood for a frozen pizza, I'll order Domino's instead.

I could stomach the Papa John's square pan pizza. Once they ditched that I abandoned ship.

I didn't know Papa John's made a square pizza. I used to like Little Caesar's square pizza. Now their pizza is mostly shit. I do still like their crazy bread though.

They ditched the square a couple years ago. Little Ceasars is okay but overrated. What is crazy sauce anyway? Marinara with Italian seasoning?

I went berserk at the Marble City mini-con and bought 170 bucks worth of silver age and golden age comics. Most were on sale at 5 bucks a pop. Lots of Adventure, Worlds Finest, Supergirl, Superboy and a mixture of Challengers of the Unknown, Mystery in Space and Strange Adventures.

Not to mention, it destroys the pizza. There shouldn't even be a grain of sugar in the sauce and only enough in the dough to react with the yeast. Having said that...





... I still think it tastes slightly better than Domino's. And since i try to put my little money where my big mouth is, I have to say that John Schnatter, with all the wage theft, and all his other villainy, still manages to run a slightly less scummy corporation than Tom Monaghan, who ought to be hauled, face down and stripped, over a glass-and-gravel road by a team of draft horses before being dipped, slowly, into a vat of turpentine.

I get that you guys outside of the city (or any major city, for that matter) have few options when it comes to Pizza, so you all get a pass, in my book. (Yeah, I know, that and 50¢ won't buy yez a slice anywhere.) And I'm sure having an app helps in a place like Anchorage, where weather and geography don't make things easy. But Alex buying that shit here is directly contributing to the continued Bloombergification of this City. Every Papa John's slice, every time you go to a 7-11 instead of a bodega, you ruin this city just a little more.

I never really collected stuff like this, but I'm curious: Is there a seasonal timing to this stuff, like School starts in September and within a few weeks all the mom's go berserk and toss their kids' comics or something (and thus the cheap price)? Or does it just seem that way?

silver age stuff is my favourite. i collected for a while and never understood why brand new comix done by hotshots were more valuable/collectible than that beautiful 60's stuff.

Papa John's has a pizza called the Monster toppings pizza that's pretty good. It's an extra large pie with giant pepperoni slices and two types of sausage. The crust is still way too sweet, but the pie is damn decent for the world of junk pizza.
Pizza Hut is way too buttery and greasy. Domino's is on my boycott list, but I had their version of a "Brooklyn style" pie at a kids party and it was mediocre at best.

Not so much seasonal as an incident of opportunity. The guy that had the 5 dollar ones had purchased a big estate sale and was thinning stock. Some of the other vendors there had what I considered to be overpriced silver age stuff. Still was able to cull a few from them. This was a mini con and had been a little hurriedly put together. It followed Fan boy con the weekend before which drew a huge crowd. There were more comics at the mini though than at the other one. I met a couple minor characters from Deadpool and The Walking Dead at this one. Both hollered at me to come over cause I had on my "Blacula" tee shirt. lol

Interesting though you mentioned moms tossing comics. My mom did that to me my freshman year in college. I went postal.

My mom would've known better than to throw anything of mine away. I was always trying to make money off something as a kid.

This talk of Brooklyn Pizza made me think of something that I bought and tasted for the first time the other day: Prosciutto Bread.

That fucking stuff is great, but deadly. To put it into perspective for non Italians, it is the equivalent of bacon and a croissant fucking and having an offspring. The lil chunks of prosciutto baked in there release their fat into the bread, making it so moist and tasty. Can't eat just one bite, either.

As I was driving around working, I'd tear off a piece here and a piece there, until 1/2 the loaf was gone and I had to stop myself. I had the same feelings of regret and self loathing that I do after masturbating.

^ Prosciutto bread sounds awesome. The only good bakery up here when I was a kid used to make croissants baked with either ham & swiss inside or a block of chocolate inside. They were both totally amazing, and could easily take care of the first 2 meals of the day.

Is DiFara's pizza in Brooklyn really as good as I hear? Supposedly you gotta get there right when they open otherwise you'll be standing in line for an hour and a half.

I still have not yet tried DiFara's, but they just an anniversary (50, I think) and introduced some new kind of pie, and the lines got about that long for the event. I think they're only 45 minutes at normal times.

My Egyptian friend utterly Panzered some really good pie from La Sorrentina near me by putting mayo on it. I took pics b/c that kind of travesty has to be documented, but I can't bring myself to post 'em.

That DiFara joint it on Ave J, couple blocks from CIA? I travel close by, I'll have to stop in and try it.

They regularly make the list for the country's best pizza, but I can't figure out why. The pies look pretty ordinary and they're cooked in an electric oven, although I've heard the oven runs quite hot.

Surprising in that area, too. I thought it was lots of Jews.
