I basically agree, but with one qualification:

I'm cool with the concept of giving micro-loans to minorities who have an idea of starting a business, at super low interest.

This model has been proven effective the world over, in some of the poorest countries on the planet.

It allows people, of whatever race, color, creed or circumstance, to pull themselves out of their predicament and make lives for themselves.

This kind of assistance, I'm all for.

Tritone's whining Gimmie Gimmie Gimme shite? No.

Apples and pumpkins. I'm there with micro- loans for all the same reasons. I've actually done a tiny bit of research to try to bump my pipe thing up to the next level. As a doped up loser, it's been nothing but a little research. And you're right, micro- loans have improved the lives, long term, of more people than the gimme gimme gimme programs ever will. Feeding a man a fish versus teaching a man to fish. It's corny but it's true.

One of the companies I buy garment blanks from has little programs all over the world where they hire villages to produce their garments. I admit I get sucked in pretty easily. If it means spending an extra 18 cents a unit to buy the stuff from one of their programs, I'm pretty OK with that.
