It seems that John Elway doesn't like that a local nothing band is called "Elway". So, instead of ignoring them and letting them die in utter and eternal obscurity, in his wisdom, he decided to trample them to the pulp with America's weapon of choice. He sent his bully lawyers to intimidate the musicians to change their name.

Their reply was worthy of other Elway foes ... the Giants, the Redskins and the Niners:

"We have no intention of changing the name again. We love the name, regardless of what connotations are inferred by the listener. Surely, if the Dead Kennedys could become one of punk's most popular bands without incurring litigation, Elway can keep their moniker and continue making so-so music for our dozens of fans to enjoy."


So-so music. Dozens of fans. I LOVE it. Self-deprecating stuff used on the attack as only the FatMan could love.






So, instead of NO ONE knowing this band exists, they get a free PR boost while Elway returns to the clown costume Bozo of Bozo's Favre allowed him to escape from.

Elway is a self absorbed douche. I can't wait for the people of Denver to turn on him while the team wallows in mediocrity. Because lets face it, you only hire a franchise icon to run the show when you know you are going to be bad. Dolphins tried it w/Marino, but when he realized he'd be nothing more than a fall guy, he bolted. Detroit Tigers did it with Trammel as manager, wasn't that the 116 or 119 loss season? Ownership in Denver has no clue.

119 his first year. His last 2 were only 90. The Tigers won the pennant the next, but not with him, obviously.

I think 90% of why the Broncos hired Elway is as described. 10% is that I think he promised ownership he'd give Jesus' favorite first-round-reach disciple a chance to be QB. Like the Wilpons with Castillo and Perez, they have to exhaust all avenues to justify the misguided investment.

Had to eat them inside to see the guy they threw away in the NFC Championship game. Especially when the coach that drove him out of town didn't even make it all the way through his season season. So, with the lockout, they'll have NO CHANCE to institute anything new this year.



Always HATED Marino for being a Dolphin. And, always RESPECTED the hell out of him for his intelligence and peerless skill. And, wished to this day that my J-E-T-S had taken him instead of Kenny.

I'd say too bad he never won a Super Bowl, but I HATE Shula and the Dolphins too much to feel that way. I don't think I'm EVER going to get over Shula's tarp shenanigans in 82/83.





The endgame of your "Icon Theory" is why I was happy the Mets didn't hire an '86 guy like Bachman or Teuffel to shepherd these lowly Bison through a few down years. No reason to have fans last memory of a past favorite be failure when he was given NO chance at succeeding.

Speaking of misguided investments, Fatty, any thoughts about Einhorn?

For him, it's win/win. For the Met fan, I'm not so sure.

The exact details aren't public. At least not yet. But, Francesa and others are reporting that he got about 35% of the team at about 1.1 Billion evaluation.

For this 1/3+ he only takes 200 million out of his pocket. The rest are loans he guarantees. And, since he's a person whose business will only better thrive on PR, he's gotten at least 100 million in free PR already.

If the Wilpons win the Madoff clawback, he either keeps it for the PR, sells it back to them at a profit, or to someone else. WIN.

If they lose, he is placed to leverage his position to put together a group where they agree to his control of the team without him spending another dime with his investors buying off the Wilpons. WIN.

And, he doesn't need to buy SNY unless it's on his terms. The only value SNY has is in carrying the Mets. So, if he doesn't get terms to his liking, all he does is wait out the contract and start "Einhorn Sports Net".


Personally, I don't trust charismatic Wall Street people. The Wilpons got in the mess their in, knowingly or not, because of a charismatic Wall Street guy. But, I'm hoping for someone other than Coupon & Jeff to take the reins.

So, I and other Met fans are dancing with the devil since Fred/Jeff have been worse than the disaster I expected from the guy who didn't want Piazza and defamed ARod.
