A Chambersburg woman accused of having a sexual relationship with her teenage daughter's 15-year-old boyfriend was sentenced Wednesday to 60 months' probation and 60 hours of community service.

Jill Bard pleaded no contest Wednesday in Franklin County Court to a charge of corrupting a minor.

Bard was first investigated in December 2002 by Chambersburg Police, after they spoke to the boyfriend, who was then 17. The youth told police that he had a two-year sexual relationship with Bard that began in 2000.

According to police, the youth was a ninth-grader at J. Frank Faust Junior High School when the relationship began. At the time, the boy was dating Bard's daughter, an eighth-grader at Faust.

Bard originally was charged with statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual assault, both felonies, as well as corruption of minors, a misdemeanor. In pleading no contest to the corruption charge, Bard did not admit guilt.

The boy's mother presented a letter in court, stating that the family would "only be satisfied with the maximum punishment allowed by law."

According to the letter, portions of which were read aloud by Judge Douglas W. Herman, "the family has concerns about his (the victim's) ability to develop normal relationships with males and females in the future."

The family sought more than $3,000 in restitution to cover costs of counseling, as well as the cost of school tuition, an expense incurred after the boy switched public schools, as well as other expenses.

Bard will have to pay $750 in fines to the Franklin County Law Library. The amount of restitution she must pay to the boy's family may be decided in a separate hearing.

Bard was also ordered to undergo counseling.
