Looks like a really good show. Main event may turn out to be lots of dry humping, but Shields should be GSP's biggest challenge in a while.

Couture is said to be retiring no matter the outcome, but if he wins, I see him hanging around for another pay day. Guy has like 3 ex wives to pay for.

Plus there is a Diaz on the card. That usually leads to a good sound bite.

Never seen Aldo fight, but all I hear is good things. Those scrappy little guys are usually bell to bell action.

GSP-Shields is gonna be a snore. Shields barely beat Kampmann. He doesn't deserve the title shot yet.
10 Canucks on the card which is awesome. It's great to see Menjivar get a shot at the big show. His first loss ever was to St. Pierre outta the old Quebec-based TKO promotion.
I think Couture will call its quits for sure this time. It'd be great to see him commentate, but if he keeps flapping his gums about a union, White will get rid of him.

I don't know about a union in the MMA game. Career length is a big hurdle. Guys on top won't buy into it. WWE, yeah, it is scripted and there careers are longer. They should all join tv actors union, they aren't athletes, they are super stars.

Randy is hot air. He isn't giving up a nickel for the guy on the bottom of the card.

the problem with ufc is these guys fight so often and are usually from decent backgrounds that they're difficult to strongly dislike of dehumanize into a mid-80's ball of fear tyson.

which really just comes back to the fact the romans got it right with using animals or consequence to create drama. where there's overlap in habitat, we know tigers tend to attack any sized reptile and they have long enough canines to go along with a bigger brain, warm blood, and muscular limbs to win. orcas kill great whites, duh. mix in 12-foot shortfin makos, big tiger sharks, bull elephants, a 70-foot sperm whale, salties, niles, hippos, really big bears from the russian peninsula, etc. and you've got 100 pay-per views in the can. tigers and mean african elephants don't encounter each other, saltwater crocs will eat a baby bullshark, but at 68mph and over a thousand pounds that live on swordfish, giant northatlantic bluefin tuna and marlin and cruise around at over 40mph, a shortfin vs. 20-foot tiger shark would be fun. same as polar bear vs. big reptile. then obviously the people are options galore.

GSP v Shields was only slightly disappointing in that I expected more from GSP.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm a GSP fan. He has all the tools and most importantly seems to have his head on straight.

I gotta disagree with jameson on backgrounds to a point. A lot of them are from pretty good backgrounds...Lesnar, that deaf kid from TUF...too high to remember any others. But at least half are/ were street thugs who are able to turn their pain tolerance gotten from an endless line of stepdads and "uncles" into a job. Lieben, the Diaz's, even GSP came up in some rough circumstances. Not really sure if I'm going somewhere with this. Just an observation.

Thing I don't like about GSP is he fights to get a win, not beat a guy. The thing that makes boxing suck is that you have guys that fight for points, not KO's. The main event was terrible, the rest of the card great.

No, doc checked him in the 4th round. Fondled that swelling, made sure the guy had peripheral vision, asked him if he wanted to continue. Did the same in the gap before the 5th. Dude was on top trying to ground and pound most of the fifth, both fighters were exhausted though. Hominick thanked the ref for not stopping the fight. Everyone I was with was hoping to see a punch explode that lump, but it never happened.

That dude's wife is due to give birth Thursday. The $129k Fight of the Night bonus is a nice start on a college fund.

dana white's known best in boston for acting a little too loud and tough until predictably the old guys in kangols sitting around southie had enough. the republicans got called in, his gyms and such all burst into flames somehow, and he fled the city until he came back within the last year for an event here. notably less-visible or security-laden.

He's now claiming that unions are keeping MMA from being sanctioned in NY, because the Station Casinos, owned by the Fertita Brothers, are non union. Some flap with the Culinary Workers union in Nevada, so they are getting some unions in NY to use their stroke with the politicians. I always thought it was the corrupt boxing industry in NYC holding them back.
