cannot agree more. it was like he was sentient enough JUST to have figured out "i raped the shit out of a 15-year old and dumped the body" would attract attention from all sorts of wrong people, but poodles and an "accident" were just pushing the envelope of what's dark/badass without a knock fro the fbi.
