Great post, Loop.
I have a lot to reflect upon here, in considering whether or not to visit my DNA-source.
Apparently, here in America, I'm attractive, but if I go to Ukraine, I will be ...commonplace...

Fatman you just made those two places up, didn't you?
Lunch yesterday was a treat I've been looking forward to for a long time. I had the day off and my wife had an extended lunch break so we went to an Indian buffet that we used to go to. It's a bit pricy @ $13.95 but that includes a drink, so the hindi brew (think it was Cheetah) I ordered made up for it.
The restaurant has equal numbers of vegetarian and meat dishes as well as soup, salad, dessert and a plethora of appetizers. Although I'm a huge carnivore I only eat vegetarian when it comes to Indian (my hippie parents raised me hindu and veg till I was 8).
It took two smoke breaks (one of them herbal) but I managed to enjoy every meatless dish in the place and washed it down with gulab juman; little cakey dumplings in a really sweet but light syrup.
As always happens when we go to this place, I walked out so full I was unable to breathe, then fell asleep for a couple of hours.

I had LUNCH with Sparky today at Nozawa on Ventura. One thing I love about this place is how fresh their fish is- you can tell because of the texture, it's almost too soft. Also their nori is nearly black instead of the usual deep dark green.
We sat at the bar and Sparky ordered a small bowl of rice as a side and we both picked sashimi as it made it's rounds on the tiny boats.
They have excellent Temaki and Ebi, but I noticed a considerable lack of excellence with their Unagi (my favorite- and thus a great disappointment)- much too bland and almost overwhelmed in taste by the nori. The Kazunoko, Saba, Tamago and Ika (possibly the toughest to prepare) were pretty exceptional though- which makes this place well approved; but the quality of their Unagi forces me to consider whether to make a second visit for the sashimi alone.
I had green tea while Sparky downed two bottles of Kirin.

This chick has become really popular in our offices and it all started with a guy called Erasermind who recently started working at the opposite building (we nicknamed this place the gluestick factory because it has a long history of high turn over for chicks who get offended for the way they are treated by a particular Mister Somebody.. tsk tsk).
Went downstairs and had a big fat juicy steak, bleeding; with a simple salad. I grabbed a mineral water to sip and finally opened a new primo packaging of Julia Child DVDs. Can't wait to get home and watch these

I've been so busy searching for the perfect luncheon experience that I forgot to log my finding here and instead, offer this immortal reminder:
"...just as lunch was at the center of man's temporal day, and man's temporal day could be seen as an analogy for his spiritual life, so lunch should be (a) seen as the center of man's spiritual life, and (b) held in jolly nice restaurants..."
Today I went to Burbank with Zaure. I had to meet up with her to get some extra C-stands because she is helping me "dress" my garage set.
We decided to pick up some Maccheroni con pomodori secchi e pesto di basilico e mandorle from Tony's Bella Vista Ristorante. I had a side of fried calamari. The only thing I don't like about this place is the dessert menu, which comprises of 3 overly sweet desserts.

Today? Spanakopitta (pinach and fetta cheese parcels wrapped in greek pastry, oven baked until golden brown) and Chicken kordato cooked in onion, mushroom, tomato, garlic and fresh cream sauce at a little Greek villa belonging to Joan.
Joan talks a lot, so much so that she hardly ate. To make matters worse, because shes an art director, the only thing she talks about is fashion (wardrobe), colors- that sort of stuff. Nothing really interesting. She also has a really big ego that you have to stroke once in a while to keep her chipper.
Not sure what was the point of her inviting me over for lunch besides listening to her yap- but it's hard to pass up a good meal- especially since her cook is Vegas approved. What a way to start the weekend.

Today I had a Luncheon date with Shivani, a producer for the English market. Producers exist in a purely fictional universe that the normal human being cannot comprehend. Sparky calls it "swimming in Producer infested waters".
I had to meet Shivani at a place called Laroche. I've never been to this place, it's not my kind of hang out. Maybe when I'm 40, if I ever get there, and have turned into a complete asshole. It's so devoid of humanity even the smell of the place is artificial.
I had Poached guinea fowl, morel and champagne cream with parnsip chips while my companinon had cured organic salmon gravalax, acacia honey and mustard dressing. Just incase you don't know, salmon gravalax is hardly what one would call a meal. It's looks like a pastry. My meal wasn't that bad but I could hardly finish it as the champagne cream was a little too strong for my taste.
Afterwards this chick lit up a strange cigarette that I've never seen before: has a long blue stem with a white butt, while I sipped on the wine curtsey of the madam waiting on us.

Today: I had the chicken fajita burrito bowl at a Mexican Cantina near Sparky's house. This contained lime/cilantro white rice, black beans, grilled chicken, cheese, soured cream, tomato salsa, green chile salsa and a squeeze of lemon over the top. Later I went over to Sparky's to mix some tunes and get a dose of a little bit of quality 80s T&A courtesy of The Beach Girls.

My friend is obsessed with the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High, so today we went to a Coffee Bean near Westwood that was once one of the eateries in the movie. I had an Americano with room at the top, so I can put in my own splash of milk where they keep the straws. It's the ghetto way of having a latte for cheaper. Then we went to Earth, Wind, and Flour. I had the chicken soup.

My friend Sparky recently managed to acquire a sim-man or simulation mannequin used by medical students. The sim-man is a very realistic replica of an unconscious human and comes with fake internal organs, tracheostomy opening, injection zones disposed at various locations, feeding tube, a stoma, a supra pubic catheter opening, a wound, a decubitus site, and a vein with phlebitis It's also designed to respond in certain ways. For example, the one Sparky has is included with a breathing generator so when he "operates" on it, it reacts as an individual would if you were to operate on them.
One thing that I found really odd was that the mannequin comes pre-named; Sparky's is called Joanne. It also comes with a little booklet telling you everything Joanne is capable of suffering from. Under my care, Joanne died once when I failed to properly diagnose her.
We broke for LUNCH at about 1:15pm and had a Turkish kebab consisting of aromatic minced beef on a skewer, lamb chops, spicy Cyprus sausage and pita bread, french fries, salad, yogurt (which I didn't touch) and rice. This meal was prepared by a chick called Sorta (I'm not kidding, it's her first name) that Sparky used to bang. I can't tell where she's from, but she looks half Asian (orient) and have Latin American.

turkey pastrami and swiss on whole wheat, with an apple and lemonade to wash it all down. Kicked it up to a steak, salad and 2 glasses of pinot noir for dinner, with a dessert finish of vanilla ice cream laced with almonds.

Big ass Taco Salad from the Yucatan Grill in the Pioneer Place mall in downtown Portland.
Filled two tiny bowls-t0-go with cilantro, roasted jalapenos, and their hottest salsa (not so hot)...and failed to get a sweaty-head, churning-stomach "Mexican" food experience...
I think Portland should develop the cutting edge of eating spicy rabbit dishes...

Always enjoy your posts, Ranathan, especially when you throw in a "like" to make me turn on the garden sprinklers to get you the fuck off my lawn.
Aside, had three fish tacos from Taco Del Mar.

Today I went to a place called Le Petit Greek Retaurant in LA. I've never been to this place but the girlfriend has been craving Greek cuisine. Since I had time to kill I let her choose (this took about half an hour).
The place is a little crammed- all the yuppies were out and about today, but there was a general good friendly atmosphere. We started off with the chief's choice of cold mezedes savory: a Greek appetizer with a side of hummus and Greek flatbread aka pitta bread.
For the entries my girlfriend had Moussaka; layered eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, and ground beef topped with a light bechamel sauce while I opted for the Zorba which is chicken breast sauteed in fresh lemon dill sauce with a touch of white wine.
We shared a bottle of Vin de Crete 2006 and water. Not bad but I'm not sure I ever want to go back there. Maybe with a bigger company. It's a little too open space for my taste.

We had lunch at PK's today. It's a soul-food place. I had beef stew over rice, pintos, green beans, cornbread and sweet tea. My accomplice had the stew, collard greens and macaroni pie with a yeast roll.
I'm going back on fried chicken day.

Today I had Lunch @ the Gaucho Grill Restaurant in Pasadena. Gaucho is a Portuguese term that means plains farmer but it probably has more in common with the Americana term Cowboy.
I went to Gaucho's with a couple of people from work; Jess from the ad department, thhky and a girl called Ruth from Costume Design. thhky is a trip. I think he's Japanese; I can't tell, neither can I understand him. He can hardly speak Engrish and has a serious lisp. I have no idea what he is doing here- he seems very indifferent to the everyday going-ons and because of this laissez faire attitude I have been pretty much ignoring him.
I ordered the Chicken Champignon which is skinless and boneless grilled breast of chicken with sauteed mushrooms on a white wine sauce, Served with mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini. Jess opted for a huge breaded Eye round steak or chicken breast, lightly fried, with tomato sauce, melted mozzarella, oregano. Ruth and Thhhky both had steamed Tilapia Papillote with veggies, basil and olive oil. I didn't have time to get anything to drink so had to grab a water from the cafeteria at work. Boring fscking day today.

Today I had a California club ham sandwich from the cafeteria and a baklava. By the way, have any of you tasted something called Tava? I'm very addicted to this. It's a sparkling water flavored citrus.

Ben, you are comfortable in your skin!
Albeit, your skin is mottled, indicative of poor parenting and residual childhood diseases.
Your continued determination to post in light of such handicaps is a continued torch for XPT'ers to follow on their own paths of self-enlightenment!

Seriously. Pasta sauce with honey sounds disgusting. I had buckwheat soba noodles and Braggs Amino Sauce along with a mixed greens and tuna salad topped with tons of celery and radishes.
