You can't really abolish parties. It's that whole constitutional freedom of association thing. Anyway, it is human nature for those with similar interests and goals to form bonds and coalitions that would soon morph into formal parties. You can't legislate away human nature. Jefferson and Adams had a tussle over the formation of political parties. IMHO, it was one of the few times that Adams had the upper hand in a debate with Jefferson.
