It's kind of like the Jerusalem Syndrome. Apparently some just average folks go off the rez, at it were, when they vacation in the Holy Land. They start deciding they're the Messiah, or some such similar kookiness.

I think politics is the same way. Some get in with the best of intentions, only to be corrupted by power or led off down the lunatic fringe path. I'm thinking Jesse might be the latter.
