I liked Sgt. Pepper. To me, they were best when they were a bubblegum band. But for later stuff Sgt. Pepper was giood stuff.

As for the Moody Blues/ Beatle comparison, I just think the Moodies were far and away a superior band. I'm with you as far as using orchestras, because that was pretty groundbreaking at the time. Kind of how Deep Purple took it to the next level by using a well known orchestra and giving them full credit. Kind of added a bit of panache or mainstream acceptability that wasn't there before.

I agree that the Moody Blues were superior, but it's an opinion I usually keep to myself these days. I've had several fanatical Beatles fans go ballistic when I've said it or mention that the Moodies did everything the Beatles did but before the Beatles. Some Beatles fans are really unhinged.

Do the Moodies have unhinged fans, too? I doubt it. I've known some people very into them, but not rabidly. Kind of like hardcore Jethro Tull fans. They have no reason to feel that the Moodies need defending.

Ivor, you're a big Zappa fan, aren't you? I never could get there. I get the tremendous talent thing, but I just never liked the music. To each his own, though. There's stuff out there for everyone, no?
