I always viewed The Beatles more as the greatest pop band, but not a hard-edged rock band like The Who or The Stones. But IMO they were great at that genre, and would cite the following as evidence of their pop greatness; Eleanor Rigby, Norwegian Wood, the entire Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, most of the "white album", Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, I Am The Walrus, The Fool on the Hill, Get Back, Hey Jude, and Let It Be for starters. To paraphrase Barry, this music was organically and intrinsically part of those times.
