it is brutal and in my opinion a detriment to the game. these guys are premiere athletes but that kind of grind puts a strain on even the most well conditioned players and as a result these guys just dont play hard all game every game.
and thats when hockey gets boring and only the diehards will watch it.

playoff hockey is a different story though. thats real hockey.
