Cosby has taken the same stance a few times. I think it's counterproductive towards the trend of english being understood at a very basic level in a huge part of the world.
Basically, there are huge advantages to having "standards", In the computing sense of the word, a definition of what an MPEG, ISO, etc. actually is a big part of making sure things are as compatible as possible---same should hold true to linguistics and the low-desirability of forking out from a standard such as english. the gza and redman are exempt from following this though.
