I just received Brandon's quote, "Regular or Biggie size". Unless he was referring to the Carmella Bing thread.

nah for realz, i'm impressed ny mag nailed down the truth porn's been afraid of spelling out. the news isn't just how internet killed the dvd star. tube sites have become much more than a piracy issue. porn's issue became something else- shielding a dirty secret. what was common knowledge within porn was kept from mainstream as to not conflict with porn's desire for mainstream acceptance. the secret? that porn is an industry that turned on itself and ended up biting its own tail. quite a conflict for such a society of outcasts, isnt it? always a fine line as to how much truth should be revealed to keep it glamorous enough so it's just a business like regular hollywood and accecptable so its safe like everything else all american but raw enough so there's still that taboo cache of danger to draw a crowd. i nom this article crossover star of the year

Porn nothing but infomercial for hookers any more. Case in point: Scene up Tuesday and Available to whore mongers Wednesday. No one hides doing privates anymore. As time goes on, the dynamic will continue to change. Doing a scene will be worth more to the whore than it will be to the producer. And the more tube sites its on, the better it is for the PW.

Devolution of porn into a front for high-end prostitution? Seems to be the case, so let the guys who call themselves PSE hobbyists (johns who overpay for pussy, of whom Charlie Sheen is merely the foremost) subsidize this Brave New World. At the end of the day, tube sites provide free porn, and if the quality ain't so hot, the price is surely right. The whores are stripped of the illusion that they are somehow "actresses", but some of the young whores seem to be taking ownership of their whoredom, so it's all good. OTOH porn purveyors will have to transform themselves into lean, mean porn machines in order to survive in the post-tube site environment.

The only way they can survive is by offering something better than the Tube sites at a reasonable price -- iTunes for porn. High quality, DRM free h.264 *downloads*. $0.99 per scene, $2.99 per entire video. Same encyclopedic selection as the Tube sites.
Do it or die -- that's the long term choice. Otherwise the only survivors will be companies like Brazzers that play both sides of the street -- but if everyone tries that approach there will be such a glut of Tube sites no one will be making any money and those operating as pure pirates -- not producing any content of their own, thus with the lowest costs, would end up winning.
iTunes for porn or death -- those are the choices, porn industry. Wake up!
I beg to differ...
We've been working on THIS for a while and are getting ready to launch in March. So, if you want to thrive, get in early.
This will put an end to the tube sites and pay per minute.

So I could get a subscription from you that I could watch on my computer as well as my television? Most of the TV I watch is video out from my graphics card.

Tired of giving out my fucking phone number and email to every cocksucker in the world trying to sell the next best thing to the shirt pocket ! Facebook, myspace, fill out a card, give to charity and they give your number to every con artist in the country, actually buy something you want and they want your personal info, ad infinitum. It's fucking ridiculous. If you have something to sell I want to want to buy it not be another fucking victim ! Fuck !!!!!!!

What if I don't want your shit after I look at the info? I still get "contacted"? How often? How? Fuck you.
I rarely agree with Chuck on anything, but when he's right, he's spot on.
Assemble a finished product. describe, in detail its features. Explain exactly how and why your product is superior to anything else available. And, most importantly: Have it available to street.
Maybe then you'll have some basis for asking for contact info. Not before.

Now that's info I can use. Just don't agree to let them censor it !!!!!! I subscribed briefly to Big Star and some of their "hard core" offerings only to find out it was all soft porn and shitty as fuck.

All of that makes sense but to be clear here you aren't marketing this tech to someone like me who uses their computer and video out from the computer straight to the tv to watch porn?
For what I just described tube sites work perfectly fine.
I get the idea that people want to watch porn on their televisions but the tech savvy amongst us already do that.

Why the fuck does he need all my info up front if it's going to be on ROKU later. I can always subscribe through it. Asking people if there is a market for streaming porn is like asking if the ocean is wet !

I don't need consumer info now, because you're right, you'll be able to sign up later. The heads up was to studios, as we are currently working on HD encoding for a general March launch.

Here's the problem with the $0.99 iTunes model.
It's called bank service charges. They run anywhere from $0.15 - $0.30 per transaction plus 3-5%. That means a movie/clip that runs $0.99, nets you $0.81 before you've covered the even the bandwidth and sent a reasonable royalty over to the studios. Even if you break out movies per scene, what studio wants to earn $0.10-$0.20 a scene?
As it winds up, the banker makes all the money. And, I know you guys don't want to throw even more money into some asshole bankers pocket.
Also, been there done that. We canned mpegster.com, where people paid $4 - $5 only when they watched a movie, because bank charges ate up all the profits AND when you throw in a $30 chargeback fee on a micro-charge, you're screwed.
Remember, porn isn't iTunes. They probably get 1/2% chargebacks, where Joe Blow will download everything you have and charge it back with his credit card company. For that reason alone, you can't go the $0.99 route.

I had no idea he was doing this. I, for one, will never hire him again and I suggest he be blacklisted from the industry.

The only thing that's going to put an end to tube sites and Manwin are a few strategically placed bullets, not another subscription site. The good old days are over.

So, in your infinite wisdom, what's the number consumers are willing to pay for simple "turn on your TV" access to high quality porn? Keep in mind that here in the US, if you want to watch on-demand porn at home on TV it's around $20/day.
Meanwhile, for a dollar a day, you can watch as much as you want by subscribing to XXXtelevision. Seems like a bargain when you compare $1/hour to $1/day.

And if you're worried that the bank takes too much of the cut, negotiate a better deal. There's more than one bank too choose from. You're too lazy and/or stupid to figure out that you better take a little margin and a decent percentage of the market than a big margin and no percentage at all. FYI: 0% of 0 = 0!
With respect, a large percentage of payment processors forbid adult businesses from using their services. It seems to be less about "morality" issues on the part of the shareholders as it is about chargebacks and fraud by the customers. Adult companies have minimal (if any) leverage in the negotiating process to get better rates. I've heard of some people going to China to get better rates recently, with the same level of accountability, legal adherence, and oversight we have come to expect from everything else that comes from that place.
I'm not saying xvod's new VOD business is great or anything (could be - who knows) -- what I'm saying is that adult payment processing sucks (and always has), and that anyone starting a substantial offering will probably need to pair it with the (equally substantial) development of their own payment processor which they also hedge with non-adult payments from traditional businesses in order to get better rates.

Main question remains, as was stated above: Can I keep what I pay for or do I have to continue paying for the same stuff over and over again?
Just like with HBO or any other subscription service, as long as you are a subscriber - you can keep watching whatever you want as many times as you want.
Quote:
As for the banks. I'm not nearly up to speed on US banking ethics, but it can't be too hard to find a payment service willing to work with you. Think outside the box: there are Albanian, Ukranian, Brazilian banks; they most probably offer also some kind of payment service. Somebody will be naive enough to work with xvod new enterprise, porn or not, fraudulent or not.
Unless you want to work with a 3rd party processor who'll gouge you for 15%, you have limited options in the US. Anybody on this board handling transaction processing will tell you that the rates I quoted above are a bargain.

No one caught the Gia mention in the same issue? Ron, 27, an architecture student, met his girlfriend when they were both undergrads. She goes to school in another city, and Ron says that for the past couple of years, he’s had weekly “dates” with his favorite porn stars, which he looks forward to all day and even showers and shaves for, as though preparing for a live-action rendezvous. “Mondays are for Gia Jordan,” he says.source: He's just not that into anyone
