In west LA we call it Alley.com. Great shit found in the alleys behind apartment buildings. Mostly touchiere lamps and bookshelves, but I found an awesome drafting chair. Vintage brown leather seat, tilt and swivel are still smooth, even the hydraulic is smooth.

I saw the thread title and without even looking at who started it I knew it was a Panzer.

I have made some good finds in the past but at this point I don't bring anything home. My fear is that if it looks okay and is discarded in this city there is a reasonable chance that it might be bed bug infested.

When I was doing drugs I knew a tweaker that used to dumpster dive at night. He'd get all tweaked out then put on a full body scuba suit he got somewhere and then drive around and fill up the back of his pick up truck with stuff he found which would be anything from scrap metal to furniture/appliances.

No but I probably should. You'll just have to tolerate my "when I was doing drugs" anecdotes when something triggers a memory from those days.

That's cool. They tend to be some of the funniest things I have read here but I never know what threads they were in whenever I feel like looking again.

I'll pull over for a lawnmower left at the curb. The only people who would leave a mower at the curb are people with more money than sense. I like to bring them home and coax those Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh and Honda engines back to life.

Then I give them away. Like Shelly Lubben I am running a ministry. A lawnmower ministry.

I knew a couple guys in High school who started a business cleaning out/organizing peoples attics, basements and garages. They would offer to haul away the junk for a small additional charge. Then they sorted out the stuff they didn't consider trash and would sell it at flea markets a couple times a month. They also cruised the upper class neighborhoods on their bulk item pick up once a month for stuff. They told me they made good money off electric dryers from those trips since usually the appliances were expensive models and only needed a new heating element, a belt or a safety door switch. What they couldn't fix they stripped for parts for future pick ups.

A friend of mine at an old job saw a girl he went to high school with one day at our job and chatted with her for a bit, later he was telling me how back in the day she was like the end all be all piece of ass everyone was pining after....now she was telling him how she was excited about finding a baby stroller in the trash.
