It's not as bad as that, and it depends on the type of test. ELISA gives a definitive all-clear in 3 months. PCR-DNA (what AIM use) is supposed to pick up HIV pretty well within a week or so of initial infection, but I'm not sure how long you have to wait after potential exposure for it to be considered definitive.
