Saw this in the Vancouver paper when I was up North this week. This guy escalated really fast. What could have been stressing him. I'd figure being an officer in the Canadian Air Force would be about as easy of a job as possible.

It was the last day of his hearing/trial/whatever it's called when you plead guilty today. It's been on the news in Toronto all day.

The guy is apparently baffling because he doesn't fit any kind of established "profile".

Despite this guy being a crazy asshole I do think it was pretty good of him to just plead guilty and spare all those involved a trial.

They have released barely any of the evidence to the public but I guess there were hours of video of him sexually assaulting and murdering his 2 victims. As well as hundreds of still photographs. Out of something like 500 pictures (this is from memory, I could be wrong) only a dozen were released to the public. I can't help having a fascination with this kind of thing and I really hope the rest of the evidence leaks, but I doubt that it ever will.

A big deal is being made about preserving as much as possible about his crimes because people are already looking 25 years in the future to his parole hearings. He'll be 72 then.

Canada doesn't have very many criminals who get sentenced to 25 years in solitary.

^^^^^ Ditto with me. I've never peeped or creepy crawled, but I think I can understand the rush of it. Actually, I know a guy who peeps sometimes. He talks to me about it, and I kinda think the big rush is the thought of getting caught.

"Yeah, Barry...a "friend". Right".

The problem with profiling is it sometimes forgets the human element. Folks are quirky beings. Sometimes something just misfires in someone's brain and the next thing you know you're standing at someone's panty drawer pulling your wang...or posting to a porno discussion group.

My interest in this story is how the peeping and creepy crawling seemed to take care of his urges for so long, but then he suddenly veered pretty far over the line. Definitely doesn't fit a profile.

Canada is fascinated by the guy right now because it's so hard to explain him. As you said with the profiling angle but it goes even deeper.

Kind of like that couple several years that were raping and killing young girls...including the woman's younger sister. Their names escape me, but she was realeased a couple of years ago.

I wonder what James Ellroy would make of this? If you've read his great bio My Dark Places he talks about breaking into women's homes and stealing their panties when he was a homeless drug addict.

Isn't being commander of Canada's largest air force base a bit like being commander of the largest naval base in Paraguay?

Canada's air force has about 13,000 members. The US air force has about 300,000.

Paraguay has a naval personal of about 2,000. They have 6 naval bases despite not having a coast line. I think that is pretty impressive.

From my limited research Canada's air force is considered "small but efficient".
