So the Postman shows up today. We're on a motot route, but we both had some packages coming, so him knocking wasn't unexpected. He brings three packages, only one needing to be signed for.
He leaves, it's Christmas in September for a few minutes, and everybody goes back about their business.
After a little bit the SO says she wondered if there's mail in the box. I poopoo her, figuring he was at the door, of course he brought it all. She just came back in, with 6 envelopes she found in the box.
What the fucking fuck? This is your government at work. The government that we want to take care of all of needs. Too stupid or just fucking lazy to bring it all to the door.

My mailman used to deliver all the letters and similar mail first on his foot tour of the neighborhood then go back and drive his vehicle around to deliver packages at the end. It was less hassle for him and less chance of losing or breaking a package. Sorry you aren't the center of your mailman's universe that he feels compelled to sort all your mail separate and hand deliver it to you so its most convenient for you at the expense of his time while complicating his job. I would suggest giving him a better tip or more expensive bottle of booze at Chrismas. Maybe your SO doesn't blow him as well as other ladies on the block.

Not sure how you got that I was complaining for not being the centre of the postman's attention, but I guess we all read what we want into things.
He wasn't doing like your guy does. He stopped at me box, seperated the envelopes from the packages, put the envelopes (6 of them, nothing oversized, nothing bulky, just 6 bills) in the box, then walked 30 feet up the straight walk to the front porch with the boxes. My complaint wasn't even that it was lazy, because I'm pretty sure it was more inconvenient to seperate my mail in the first place. It was more to illustrate a kind of do the job half assed, even if doing it full assed is easier mentality. I somehow doubt that the UPS driver (and I despise UPS worse than I despise Costco) would do something similar.

In my neighborhood the post guy won't bring ANYTHING that's not standard. If it's a package or a registered letter, he just sticks one of those "we missed you" slips in the box. He never attempts to deliver it. His asshole answer when you ask him about it is.."they don't give me those items". Which is total BS, since the route guys are required to sort their own mail before going out. He's just a lazy ass.

You'll notice the decay in the service of the postal system began about the time they went from being civil servants to unionized public sector union members. Unions destroy another institution, just like they've done to our education system.

In mi bario it's hit and miss. Sometimes they deliver, sometimes they drop the note.
My biggest bitch with the PO is when we bought our house the city was tearing up and totally revamping the street. New water lines, new sewer, all that shit that goes under the pavement. Major deal, with iffy access when you wanted it. So the PO went from to the door delivery to putting everyone on a motor route. Temporarily, until the project was done, of course. 10 years after said project was done, we're still a motor route. Whenever I have to go to the PO to pick up a package or whatever, if there's no line I'll ask whatever happened to putting us back on door service. Well, of course no one knows, no one makes decisions. They can't say they're just going to keep things the way they are, because that would be too firm. It's a truly fucked up system.

Bob, you can't just walk up to some random person and say, "what happened??". You've got to start talking to your neighbors, find out who the right department at the post office is to talk to. Deliver them a petition, or whatever. That's how it would be done, but unfortunately, no one makes decisions anymore. They just walk around and grouse.
WTF are you doing getting 6 bills in your mail in a single day anyway? How many credit cards do you have? 6 bills in one day? That's almost as many as I get in an entire month.
Oh, and BTW. They have this new neat thing called the internet. That's where I get and pay all my bills.
Stop using the post office for stuff you don't need it for. You're just delaying it's eventual demise. Let it die and go out of its misery already. Then you won't have to complain about it so much.

And, don't be grousing to the postmaster about how "society is in decay!". Let him know how he's benefiting the community yall are all a part of, etc.. It's probably just your lazy ass not wanting to walk all the way up that tiny driveway you got (which also means you have no intention of talking to the postmaster), but they do feed the guys at the post office that "service to community" dogma at the post office, try to play into that and practise some political savvy.
When you go to sell your house, door delivery would probably be a decent selling point. Make the neighborhood feel more cozy.

What a coincidence. I use a couple of services that send articles via USPS. Recently I've been at home working on a a few things at the house and waiting on some articles I ordered. Out of sheer coincidence I have been walking the dog about the time the mailPERSON delivers the mail. Not a single notice was left this week telling me that there were packages for pickup. Just like the rest of the week, today I happen to be walking the dog a few houses down from mine while the mail was being left. Expecting a delivery I watched as the mail was placed in the mailbox and the vehicle drove away. No attempt to deliver anything was ever made. No delivery notice was left.
Later, I go back to the home office and check e-mail and was surprised to see an automated tracking message from my delivery service stating that the package was attempted to be delivered today. I call the post office to check and not only was there the package I was waiting on, but SIX others.
I did go to the post office and asked to meet with the local postmaster.
This only illustrates what I have always said... Just do your job, and you will stand out head and shoulders above your co-workers. Fuck the retards on here who try to make political arguments out of this, they are too stupid to understand anything about how the world around them works. A human being who actually does his job is a very rare thing. You can get anything you want in this country by just doing the bare minimum your job requires. Do anything more than that and the world is your oyster.

You're right, Ted. I've tried talking to at least the guy my mailbox shares a post with, but all I got was it is what it is. Nothing you can do. I don't suppose we're a big hotbed of revolutionary fervor in my culdesac.
Hadn't thought about why I was getting 6 bills until you axed. I gave it a second glance and there was like a water bill and the rest were cc and magazine offers and somehow I've gotten on Scientology's mailing list.
I do know that I very seldom mail anything now, bill or letter wise. I ship merch UPS or USPS, whichever is cheaper each time.

I still hold a grudge against the overpaid schnooks at UPS for their strike 10+ years ago. I'm like a Muslim that way. Any slight, no matter how minor or long ago, goes unpunished.
My fresh grudge with them is a month or 2 ago I get an email from a guy in Toronto wanting to buy some merch from me. I've never done any international shipping, so I spent the time of going to UPS, USPS, and FedEX Ground to see exactly what all was involved in getting said smoking device to the Great White North and how much it would run me. UPS came in at the lowest, $20...for a $40 item. I was embarassed when I told the Toronto urbanite what it would cost, but he ordered anyway. When I took it to the UPS Store, sure enough, $20 plus filling out some Customs forms. First shipment to Canada, so O tracked it daily, because I was kind of curious. After a week, it's in his town, been to his doorstep, but not delivered. I get an email from him saying that there was a note on his door saying there was a COD of $40/USD. So I call UPS, at like 2am, to see what it's about. It's a "broker's fee". Apparently a broker runs it through Customs, or prepares it for Customs, or some such shit. The best I can do is have the recipient call UPS Canada to see about getting it waived. He did make it clear that UPS had nothing to do with it...a statement that is important to this meaningless tale.
So I stew about it until I get home in the morning and decide to call UPS Canada myself. The CSR tells me the same thing, nothing can be done about it, not UPS's fault. I asked why I wasn't told about it when I was at the UPS Store, asking about any surprises that might pop up. She finally agrees to pull the charge, but I still have to pay $6 sales tax on it. Fine. I pay it, the guy gets his merch, everyone's happy. A few days later, I'm checking my statement. There's the $6 charge...to UPS Canada Brokerage. After being told several times that the brokers fee has nothing to do with UPS, I find out the broker IS UPS. Fucking lying cocksuckers.
At the end of the day, it was a useful experience. I know what the pitfalls are in shipping to Canada and the ways around them. Opens up a whole new market for me. Thanx UPS Canada!!

Heh. NEVER show real value on customs forms. A family member sent me a text book last year that was around 120$ USD and she put the real value on it. Sure enough when it showed up they wanted 50 or 60 bucks to release it to me.
If it's worth 50, say it's worth 10 and is a gift.
