Expecting originality out of politicians (of whatever stripe) is like wondering if the latest "Lynn" PW is related to Ginger Lynn.

Dino, is there anything particular in that contract that you don't like? Or, it's just the name?
Also, you're aware that it's late-2010 right now? You're thinking it's too early to be concerned about our health care system as it would be in 2012?
the name is an instant - point.....easily.
yes I know its 2010 as well as the fact the Obamacare didn't start but 4-5 days ago....and its completion date is 2012....or as the "talking heads" this week were timetabling it.
So from what I can gather initially from what they were saying.....same name, most of the same old regurgitated rhetoric from the past + add full repeal again of all Osama attempts at trying to do the job of why he was elected....so to speak....and lastly of the fact that...those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it....I don't want to go back to the 90's (name wise again )....yuck!

Either one of the parties might have a little more success of they tried Contact with America instead.

The Pledge for America is pretty thin gruel. It doesn't go far enough into detail on the types of and extent of the cuts in federal spending that most Americans want. Returning the to pre 2008 spending levels is just not good enough. I was hoping for pre 1970 spending levels.

Dino, seriously, just give up. That chart is one of the worst examples of over-simplifying an issue for purposes of propanda that I've ever seen.
Just showing the top marginal rate for the "wealthiest americans" means absolutely nothing. For example, despite during Eisenhower's time, the marginal rate being 90%, the effective rate was much lower. You got a tax break for everything, including interest you had to pay for credit card companies. If you weren't just browsing Democratic propanganda sites, you have heard a 1,000 times by now that with the Reagan tax cutes, the "wealthiest Americans" were actually paying a higher effective tax rate, because he cancelled so many tax breaks.
Bust as to the headline of this graph which is probably the only thing you looked at before posting it, this "wealthiest Americans" thing, with Obama running around saying "if you're family makes less than $250K a year... blah blah blah". But then when he's not talking about wealthy families, but talking about small businesses (who create the vast majority of new jobs in this country), he's all for stimulating them, giving them tax breaks etc.
So, as it turns out, the vast majority of these "wealthiest American families" are in the top marginal tax bracket because they run small business. The reason they're paying the individual tax rate on the profits from their business because they're lower than the corporate tax rate.
Obama wanting to raise the income tax rate 3% on small businesses wouldn't bother me so much, if it were timed in any way that made any sense at all. This country's trying to get out of the worst recession since the Great Depression. Now's just not the time to be raising taxes, especially on small businesses that create most of our jobs.
There's similar propaganda lines Republicans float all the time, they're just not as pronounced now because it's the Democrats in power and they're the ones on trial. Just like in '02, '04, '06, and '08 it was the Republicans on trial. You've just got to look a little deeper than the ridiculous nonsense they throw out as party lines.
Man I wish there were an intelligent Liberal who posted here. Fatman is the closest thing. But, he rarely talks about politics and is way more interested in religion anyway...
I think the problem is the lack of popular Liberal commentators. Conservatives have the particularly outlandish Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity, all of which irritate me and I try not to listen to. But, beneath their screaming and yelling, they do talk about the basis behind the propaganda rather than just repeatedly throwing it out there. More thoughtful (less trying to be outlandish for the purpose of ratings) conservative commentators include David Brooks, George Will, Bill Kristol (the whole Weekly Standard magazine he runs is really great), Charles Krauthammer.
Let's change this thread from Dino's regurgitation of mindless Democratic propaganda nonsense to a thread discussing where the substantial information behind Liberal processes are. Do they have any entertaining commentators like the Conservatives do? Give me some links, I will read them.

Who are the Liberal commentators worth reading? Are there any?

O'Reilly is brilliant himself. He knows what's going on. But, his stupid show. He completely orchestrates that to get ratings. Back when I used to watch it, the tipping point for me was when he'd do his stories expressing his "outrage" over pranks pulled by the porn industry. Shane's World went into some public university college dorm and shot a porn. O'Reilly had video clips of of sexy 20-somethings bouncing around in short shorts.
Come on, you're not "outraged". You just trying to get ratings. And, outrage is the only way to slip it buy the corporate censors.
But, what do you expect out of a show that's on every night during prime time on the most popular cable news network?
I do think O'Reilly is brilliant. Sean Hannity on the other hand, not so much. Hannity was the high school jock the school was so proud of. Because, not only was he a good athlete, but also got good grades. Thing was, he wasn't taking any of the harder honors courses, just general curriculum stuff that didn't take reams of intelligence to do well with. And since Hannity worked hard at, he always came down with A's and B's.
George Will is probably bearable to a Liberal on those Sunday morning round tables because he's willing to sit there with Liberals and have a discussion with them. But, he's pretty damn conservative. I wouldn't expect a Liberal to be able to follow him that closely. Probably get on their nerves too much.
David Brooks is a much more moderate Conservative. If I were a Liberal, he's who I'd read. And, David Brooks is also a very colorful writer. Even if he weren't writing about ideas I appreciate, but were just writing fiction, I'd still really like that guy.
Here's a piece Brooks wrote on Justice Roberts confirmation hearing, good stuff: Click
David Brooks is easily my favorite journalist working today.

Flat 15% income tax is the closest thing to fair. Still too many holes in the current tax code for dishonest assholes to weasel out of their "fair" share.
flat taxes would be nice.....if it was as a "universal" standard tax...and would be the base for ALL taxes....then they couldnt extra tax ANYTHING....federally, statewide or locally.
No sin taxes....all the way down to local assesments on visitors in the form of taxes on lodging.
Also there sould be a wavier such as now for churches and such as anyone below the poverty level.

Agreed. It'll never happen, though, because there are uber-rich fucks on both sides who would pitch a fit if the topic was even discussed on the House or Senate floor.
Being a moderate sucks more than usual lately. I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative, but I work in the medical industry, so I can't objectively discuss universal healthcare.
