When you have taken on the label of "alcoholic" for so long despite being sober that is what you become in your own head. But he's never had to come to terms with being a pill popper he doesn't have those years of guilt or whatever. It's from a doctor so it's okay. Nobody with a giant bottle of xanax has ever become dependent on it because it has a dosage listed, not like rum...

Chuck, you're a good dude, but nobody with any drug experience thinks that using xanax is the same as staying sober. Maybe if for your anxiety you were doing heavy exercise, deep breathing, yoga or meditation but xanax has an extraordinary potential for abuse.




He never really did recover, he just traded one type of addiction for an another. In fact it's most likely the reason his girlie gave him the heave ho. Someone in actual recovery wouldn't want to be near the influence of someone just pretending to be in recovery.
