as far as driving women off the board, don't single fiend out. hell, we could have an entire thread called 'who drives the most chicks off the board.' sure, i'd love more female posters, but women get freaked out or offended. that's the way it goes unfortunately. also, from being on message boards since 1998, i've noticed it's mostly a guy thing. even when i was on a fashion .alt message board. it's men that mostly gravitate twds online communities.
